Hybrid Character Concepts

I know if anyone ever wanted to have another Mystic Theurge it would probably be a Wizard/Invoker. Someone who's studied the inner workings of reality and knows how the Gods made it be. In fact they probably studied from the (spell)Book of the Gods.

I think a Fighter/Assassin would also be a good idea, as you got someone who's hardier than a normal Assassin, and way more insidious than a normal fighter. He probably replaced his soul with the shadows, when he made an oath of vengeance against an army that destroyed all that he knew.

Other than the former Creepy Child concept (Psion/Shaman) that I thought of, some other ideas for a Psion hybrid (which I have an idea on how one could be made even without a preview writeup) are:

Inquisitor (Avenger/Psion) - With your talent for reading the minds of others, your God tasked you with the power to hunt it's enemies down.

Charlatan (Rogue or Bard/Psion) - You're a traveler and swindler going from town to town, stealing secrets and bending others to your will through deceit. You claim to be many things you aren't.

Heh heh. I knew I just needed to drop an offhand reference and the fine folks here at EN World would help out. :) I'm not deeply familiar with the powers of all the classes, so I was considering assassin but hadn't looked at the fey warlock too much yet. I'll have to check that out. Thanks, guys!

Unfortunately there's also been some other interesting ideas in this thread. Too many concepts, not enough campaigns!

Fey Warlock has a level 2 utility power(encounter) that allows you to teleport 3. It's Pact Boon allows you to teleport 3 whenever a curse victim hits 0 HP or lower. A feat can make this teleport 5, I believe. It also has a level three encounter power which allows you to teleport, damage those adjacent to your departure point, immobilizing all of those damage(save ends)

So, by level three you could have 3 different methods of teleport, with the Eladrin ability granting a 4th, I believe. Sounds pretty BAMFtastic. I've no access to DDI, so I've no idea what the assassin is capable of, but if it adds MORE teleportation, sounds like the perfect hybrid for such a thing.

Also, the Fey Warlock At will makes you invisible to your victim until your next turn... which could be 'sorta' like teleporting, since if you get any chance to move during that time, it'd seem to your opponent that you just teleported.

They have Shadow Step, it's at will but must be from adjacent to a creature to another square in short range that's adjacent to a creature.

I'm actually playing a Rogue|Warlock hybrid with a teleportation fetish right now. Mine's a tiefling, so he has an eladrin inferority complex, but if I was building Nightcrawler I think I'd actually make him a shadar-kai rather than an eladrin. The racial teleport power is shorter range, but you also become insubstantial until the start of your next turn. Take the Devious Jaunt feat to add your Int mod to your teleport distance with Shadow Jaunt.

If your DM allows Dragonmark feats (or equivalents with the ritual stuff removed to make them balanced), grab Mark of Passage early (+1 square to shifts and teleports). Then get an item that grants a teleport, maybe something simple like Boots of Jaunting (1 square teleport, level 2 item). I'm doing both with my own Rogue|Warlock. White Lotus Evasion from the White Lotus Academy Dragon article lets you shift 1 when you hit with an arcane at-will, which is another good choice (and it's a 2-square shift if you also have Mark of Passage).

Spend your Hybrid Talent feat on Misty Step, the Fey Pact boon that lets you teleport, rather than on Shadow Walk like I did. That way, you've got 2 teleport powers at level 1 (racial and Fey Pact), 3 at level 2, and 4 at level 3 when you take Otherwind Stride (the feylock level 3 power that Theroc mentioned).

The assassin will probably also be a good hybrid choice with Warlock, once a hybrid class stem is released for it. I was actually a little disappointed when I read the Assassin writeup and realized that Wizards had basically built what I was going for with my Rogue|Warlock hybrid, but too late for me to change classes. My Rogue|Warlock build aims to use Fleeting Ghost + Shadow Walk to be very sneaky while moving fast, with the occasional bit of BAMFing around to break line of sight (and enable another Stealth check) once I get teleportation powers at level 2 or 3.

I'm shocked no one's put this one out yet (even though the hybirds don't exist just yet):

Ninja (Assassin|Monk) Granted, it's not optimal. But c'mon!

Also:

Magic Weapon Master (Swordmage|Artificer).

(As far as Ability scores, our DM allows us an extra 6 points to distribute as desired, so the abilities aren't strictly "legal". When teleportation wasn't included in a power's description, I chose shift effects, which could be interpreted as short-distance BAMFs. I'm sure there are even more optimal choices for powers and magic items--and even Nightcrawler's DEX seems a bit low--but I haven't slept in 36 hours so I'm a little loopy. When I'm more awake I might revisit this build, adjusting his Ability scores and magic items a bit futher.)

Some interesting Warden hybrids I can think of.

Champion of the Forgotten (Warden/Vestige Warlock) - Civilizations rise and fall, the ruins of such cultures lie everywhere, but nature always remains. It's from the memory of spirits that you can remember the remnants of what once was. With the power of nature and the memory of the forgotten, you can assume the forms of forgotten champions of the past and bring down their curses.

Aspect of Wrath (Avenger or Cleric/Warden) - You're a secretive emissary of your God, taking on the forms of it's messengers and heralds. When the time comes to deliver the message of your deity's disapproval, you come in your war-form bringing down wrath and turning the world against it's foes.
