Hybrid Talent

It would be a problem for some groups, since it would allow hybrid characters to take over single-class character's roles more easily. That can violate spotlight time.

For a lot of groups that isn't a problem. If your group is one of those, by all means let people take the feat more often.

For game design it is often better to limit the players options slightly more than might be absolutely needful. Especially for D&D, which has a particular and vast population of players. This is because very few players are upset when their DM is more lenient than the rules, but many feel their fun is ruined when their DM is less lenient than the rules.

Cause hybridding already gives you more class features than multiclassing? If Hybridding allowed you to take feats to make one of your classes the true version of that class, there'd be no reason to multiclass, rendering that choice a non-issue.

Hybrid isn't supposed to be the multiclass replacement, it's supposed to be an alternate form of multiclassing. Meaning, there's a real choice between multiclassing and Hybriding. Giving Hybrid full access to a non-hybrid class's features with feats would unbalance that choice.

If a fighter|rogue had Tempest Fighter Combat Talent, Rogue Tactics Brutal Scoundrel, and Rogue Weapon Talent, that would yield some pretty crazy accuracy and damage with a pair of daggers.

Since most class bonuses are untyped, stacking multiple hybrid talents would be pretty abusable.

Of course, this begs the secondary question: if we make all those bonuses typed (e.g. "you get a +1 class bonus to AC", etc.), would multiple Hybrid Talent be balanced?

For numeric bonuses, I'd lean towards Yes.

Hmmm... hadn't really thought of that, but I probably would have.

I was screwing around with the Character Builder, and tried to make a Pacifist Beast Master Ranger Channel Divinity Cleric Hybrid.

The PC not actually doing any damage himself was part of the theme.

I'm not convinced damage should bypasses the stun penalty for Pacifist Healer mind you. ;)

So just imagine you take it four times.

For the same feat investment as Paragon multiclassing you gain much, much more. More even than a straight class either way would gain.

In fact, at that point you are beginning to look like a 3.5 gestalt character. With the best of both worlds and the weaknesses of none.

If you want to have more than one feature, look at the Hybrid multiclassing. That seems interesting.

In a group of all hybrids, it just raises the power level of the party...which is fine.

In a group of hybrids vs nonhybrids, it gives way too much goodness to the hybrids.

You can take hybrid talent more than once -- by the hybrid paragon path option. This gives you a second hybrid talent, which is quite good.

The hybrid talent feat is a feat that is "too good". The cost you pay for it is, quite honestly, nominal. Examine the scale of the things you get when you take hybrid talent -- they make normal feats look tiny.

You could fit it into a powered-up game. Allow hybrid characters to take 2 hybrid talent feats, and multiclass characters to take 1.

You know, hybrid characters *can* still multiclass. I think I might explode from that much cross pollination, but it is possible...
