Hypothesis about PHBx

The way I interpreted the initial word about annual book releases was that there would be a PHB II next year, a DMG II the following year, MM II the year after that, rather than seeing all three in a single year, and again each year after. There might be other stuff posted I haven't seen that destroys my interpretation. Does anyone have a link to anything that clarifies that they are planning on one of each of the core books released annually?

The original comment was pretty clear and I believe supported by some comments made by WotC staff. The original comment was brought from someone at one of the seminars, so it might be a misquote. The fact that it's been very widespread and WotC hasn't seen fit to shoot down the "rumor" and that designers have commented on it without backing off the the comment in any way makes it seem clear to me.

Scott has said that they decided some time ago that 8-10 years is the appropriate time for a new edition. That means we won't be getting a new edition in 4 or 5 years.

I didn't say they would be releasing a new edition in 4-5 years. But they'll be shifting staff to it in 4-5 years and it will have a soft place in their production schedule probably within 6-7 years (for a publish date of 7-9 years out).

Year 1: PHB1, MM1, DMG1
Year 2: PHB2, MM2, maybe DMG2 but I doubt it
Year 3: PHB3, MM3, DMG2
Year 4: MM4, experimental products
Year 5: PHB 4, DMG3
Year 6: MM6, experimental products
Year 7: MM7, experimental products

If think they'll burn through the typical archetypes by PHB3 and unless DMGx is actually more like Unearthed Arcana I don't see developing more than 3 and even those would be spread out.

So even though I hate the idea of other power sources coming out later, it seems inevitable.

Why? Do you think that all classes should be cobbled into being martial, arcane or divine? A psion as an arcane class instead of a psionic one?

I think we'll see Psionics and Ki in PHB2, and then a few other classes for Martial, Arcane, and/or Divine.

I never bought into the "3 new power sources per PHB" thoughts. I do think we'll see them in the upcoming PHBs, but I doubt it will be more than one or two per book (and sometimes even none).
Yep, my guess is one new power source per additional PHB.

Agree. People will be clamoring for druids too, so Nature seems like a good third choice. Though if ranger is going to be in PHB1, what other classes might use Nature as a power source? I am not too up on my splatbook knowledge. It would seem odd to have a power source for just one class.
