D&D 4E I Am Excited By 4e!

I am excited by 4e!

I am a retailer and working towards publishing D20 material. Every fear I have about 4e so far has't come to pass. Every hope I have had, seems to be true! It feels to me WOTC listend to everyone, retailers, players, DMs, players who refused to adapt 3.0 or 3.5, MMO players who left meatspace play :)

I have been gaming for almost 20 years and a gaming retailer for 12 of them. I have never been so excited about a gaming product as I am right now :) I feel like a kid at <insert gift giving, joyful, showing love to friends and family holiday here> ;)

It looks like 4e and the DI...

* Solves barriers to entry for new players
* Makes DMing easy and puts the tools in every players hand to play with
* Solves PDF piracy. By buying the book you get to unlock it digitaly with your D&Dinsider account! Retailer is happy, Player is happy and WOTC is happy.
* Is still OGL/ d20!!!
* D&D has a subscription model like a MMO now, with plenty of value and its competively priced. I can carry my D&D modules, dragon and dungeon magazine, adventure prep material, characters, and all my books anywhere I have a internet connection and a computer! Brilliant! The character generator is updated when I buy a book and unlock it! Brilliant! I can hop online at any time, find a group to join that is taking outside players and play D&D 24/7 online! Brilliant!

If this works D&D will bring back old players who want loose magic items, more story driven play, easier DMing and less rules lawyering. Likewise, rules will be clean and easy to follow. Hoping into a game sounds like it is going to be way easier!

WE ARE GOING TO GET THE SETTINGS BACK!!! ONE PER YEAR!

This is soooooo awesome :) I feel like a kid again :) Everyone i know is excited about this :) My wife is happy, my kids are going to love it, my friends want to play D&D again!

Thank you WOTC, keep up the good work. Nice job making every level of the industry happy, I hope it works out :) Thank you for improving the business model and keeping everyone winning at the same time.

I am very happy and impressed so far

I've got to vent my excitment too. So I'll just echo what you said.

As an old eTools user, having a character generator I can 'update' when I buy new books is outstanding.

is this official?
I forget which WotC emplyee said it, but yeah, roughly one setting per year is the current plan. Though I feel it is important that we don't really know which settings will be included.

I too am quite happy about what I've seen so far. 2008 will be Forgotten Realms 4E and I'd imagine that 2009 will be Eberron 4E.
I think that's a reasonable guess...though Eberron could be pushed back to 2020 and I'd be okay with it.

Agreed. Anyone think there's a chance they'll bring back Ravenloft? I know AlQuadim is out of the question. Planescape seems like a real possibility.

I'm getting really excited about 4E as well...

I love the new directions that 3.5 has explored in the last year: maneuvers and improved multiclassing from Book of Nine Swords, multiclass patch feats from Complete Scoundrel, and reserve feats from Complete Mage. I think those directions were basically test runs conducted while they were developing 4E.

Fold in talent trees from SWSE for more customizable classes, decreased dependence on magic items, increased emphasis on racial abilities, as well as all the rest, and I'm starting to see a very pretty picture for next spring! Whee!
