You know, I'm proud of my article "Birth of the Dead" in the latest issue of Dragon. Not the best thing I've ever written, but I think it's pretty cool.

I will be the first person to step forward, however, and claim that it's not remotely the best article in the issue.

James Jacobs has truly outdone himself, and almost everyone else. "Not For the Living" is not merely one of the best Dragon articles for 3.5, I think it may be one of the best articles for any edition. The perfect mixture of flavor and crunch, it is absolutely, 100% useful in almost any setting and any campaign. It's moody, it's atmospheric, it's inspiring, and it's damned easy to use. And it's one of the strokes of genius where the idea seems so obvious, you're shocked it hasn't been done--and yet, someone clearly had to think of it.

My hat's off to you, James. I desperately hope to see this material (or at least its like) included in future hardcovers. It deserves to be much a part of the mainstream as monsters or traps. Easily worth the price of the magazine by itself.

No contest there. That's exactly how I felt upon reading it. That's one of those articles that just seems to shine right off the page.

The current issue of Dragon is the best in a long, long time, and there has been a consistent improvement in Dragon over the last year or so, IMO - You should be really proud to be involved in it, I loved your article and it will get considerable use in my campaign - the fact it not only ties in with but stands alongside the Jacobs article in terms of quality is just extra testament to how happy you should be with it.

I look forward to reading James' article, and yours as well! Honestly, Heroes of Horror is most-anticipated WOTC book order for a very long time (although I admit that the great fluff in Weapons of Legacy made it much better than I expected).

Regarding Dragon content that Sad_Genius mentioned: I think the magazine is consistently fantastic, other than the horrid 'all Forgotten Realms, all the time' issue #335. Yawn. It sounds like #336 is a return to the more-common format, which I am all-for.

The October issues have always been my hands-down favorites. Ari, you and James both really shone in this issue. To quote Alice Cooper, "I love the dead", and you guys just give me more reasons to do so.

I really appreciate the sentiments, guys. Considering what I was paired with--not only James' "Not For the Living" article, but the articles on the Spawn of Kyuss and the Demonomicon, which were also exceptionally well done--the fact that people still enjoyed mine is immensely flattering.

It may sound odd to say it, but I'm actually feeling honored to have been part of this issue.

And while I'm handing out the kudos to the other writers in the issue, let me offer Erik his fair share as well, for putting this thing together. Long live the editor.
