Which browser is it then, or is this occuring on IE, and if so which version?

You should try going to a different computer that's never been on ENWorld before. If that one knows you're El-remmen, dude, you're screwed.

I had this happen to me on one PC that I use occasionally as well, in IE. I don't remember exactly how I managed to finally log out, but I know I cleared the cache, deleted all cookies, and deleted all history from the browser. I may have had to close IE as well, and restart it.
