YMMV, but I have never found alot of gamers from Meetup. Infact, I've only heard of one gamer finding a group from Meetup, and I never met that guy.
Bones - Add two more to your invisible friend, myself and another gamer in my group. We're in our current group via a MeetUp meeting. Miracles do happen.

Curtis - when I saw the DI demo this weekend I was specifically thinking about your situation. DI/VT will probably be the best way you'll get to play with high-calibur gamers that just isn't possible in T-Town. You won't have much of a problem attracting players and you can fit it in your schedule. And I want to play too! ;)

I've been actively reading and participating in Gundark's thread about VT (before 4E exploded last weekend) and I think either OpenRPG or MapTools (?) might be the best solution along with either TeamSpeak or Skype (which went down over the weekend) :(

Check out the thread and think about it. I don't know what your PC set up is at home, but I think VT + VoIP can be done on the cheap.

You know, back when I used to run on weekdays, Thursday worked out great. I think it's a perfect day for running...

1: It's Thursday. It's not Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Who the hell does anything on Thursdays?

2: It's almost the weekend. If you stay up late Thursday, you're only going to pay for it one day. Makes it a lot easier to convince people to game late, which is hard for most weekdays.

Anyways, good luck finding a group!

Well, I was thinking about today on the way back from lunch. There are gamers who game in this town that aren't part of the Meetup - the difficult thing is finding them.

There are no hobby game stores in or near Tulsa? That's the classic place to find gamers.

Edit: Try these places (if they still exist, WotC isn't great at keeping the data up-to-date)

There are game stores, though I don't know if any of the have bulletin boards. Plus - have you seen the kind of people who play at FLGS's lately?

Computer isn't a problem. I've got a gig of RAM, and DSL.

Actually, I went back and found that thread this morning. I spent almost the entire morning pouring over all the links and references - even printed out the comparison chart after re-formatting it in Excel so I could read it.

It would seem as though OpenRPG or maybe FG2.0 would be the way to go - FG seems to have an active community, so I think it might be easy to find people to play with that. Klooge.Werks also scored high on that last. So, I still have some more research to do.

My advice? I would try talking to the wife about it. Let her know that gaming is important to you and that you've tried finding a group who'll play at your house on a weeknight, but have not been able to. See if she would be okay with you running a group every 3rd Saturday or something like that. She still gets you all to herself most of time and you get to enjoy the hobby that you love. Seems like a reasonable compromise to me.

Perhaps if you shifted your scheduled so you were living on Tulsa Time, things might work out better?

I do pbp stuff on RPOL.net. The games are slow (soooo slowwwww) but it does help satisfy the gaming addiction a little.
