I can't find a game group!

Speaking of wives - I had mine post to one of her "Stay at home Mom" asking about all her girlfriends husbands - to see if any of them game. She got like 3 pages of responses.

So, I guess we're hosting some sort of "game night" at our house sometime after Labor Day. It might be video games, and it might be board games, but if even 3 people come out of it with an interest in playing some D&D, it will be worth it!

Bones - Add two more to your invisible friend, myself and another gamer in my group. We're in our current group via a MeetUp meeting. Miracles do happen.

Curtis - when I saw the DI demo this weekend I was specifically thinking about your situation. DI/VT will probably be the best way you'll get to play with high-calibur gamers that just isn't possible in T-Town. You won't have much of a problem attracting players and you can fit it in your schedule. And I want to play too! ;)
This is one of the things that has me excited about the DI: the possibility of playing with some of the ENWorld regulars using the game table. I'm not really interested in play-by-post, but with a good, well-supported game table and voice chat, I could see myself making the move online, especially considering how hard it is to find players, and how I will probably be moving around a lot over the next 5 to 10 years or so. It'll be nice to have a large base of experienced players to find games with.

Glad you got a good response from your wife's posting, der_kluge. If that doesn't work out, you might bite the bullet and go ahead and simply play in someone else's tabletop game for a while. Odds are once the group became accustomed to you and you inevitably express interest in DMing, you'll find yourself back in the hot seat once again.

Sometimes the best way to break into something is to jump on board in a "starting" position.

thursday

You know, back when I used to run on weekdays, Thursday worked out great. I think it's a perfect day for running...

1: It's Thursday. It's not Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Who the hell does anything on Thursdays?

2: It's almost the weekend. If you stay up late Thursday, you're only going to pay for it one day. Makes it a lot easier to convince people to game late, which is hard for most weekdays.

I agree. I'm in two campaigns, one's on thur., the other on fri. because one still has to work the next day, the dm's conscientious to stop the game at a reasonable time while the fri. group has played until 5 am sat. morn (which would have been fun if it had been interesting. but it was one of those horror 8 hour pure combat game where half the time was spent arguing over rule-minutiae which i couldn't care less)

My kids are 4 and not-quite 2. I could try that, but I'm pretty certain the youngest would probably try to eat the dice. :)

Buy bigger dice ;) Seriously, I bought a largish set of dice that my nearly 2yr old wouldn't be able to eat. that way if we're gaming and she's awake, she can play w/her own dice and leave mommy and daddy's alone ;)

If you were in Louisville I'd say come over sometime, we need more gamers. There may be a lot more here, but I don't know them.

Nice. Always glad to hear of a happy ending. YMMV, but I've found that videogames don't tend to be very social. If you want to get to know people and find a gaming group, I'd play a game with a bit of a geek edge to it. My preference is Munchkin, but there are plenty of other good games out there.

Heck, if you wanna go radical and include the wives/girlfriends (if for no other reason then to prove to them that you're a good guy that just like to game), try poker. Texas Hold'em always attracts a crowd. Then after a few hands of that, switch to a better game.

Good luck.

Videogames can be a very social thing. Some decent multiplayer games like FPSes, the Bomberman series or maybe if someone owns a Wii you have loads of options ;)

So many board and card games., good luck w/your gaming night kluge!

I'm going to try downloading some other programs - FG2 and maybe maptools and Klooge.werks (I'm drawn to this last one though I can't imagine why...)

more on klooge.werks, from their forums, when I inquired about 3D movement:

"The ability of Klooge to handle multiple maps at the same time can be an asset with this as well. One view from top down, one view from the side. The players can flip back and forth between the maps as they wish. With the correct Altitude noted for each Icon Klooge will do all the math for you to correctly compute distances, and the like.

If you were going for the top down view for the main panel I can also see that changing the Icons size would be a nice representation to show visually depth as well as the alitude bar. i.e. Human at the surface is 2.5 size, 50 feet down is 2.0, 100 feet down is 1.5, etc. "
