D&D General I can't understand why Gygax split a given stat into Str and Con

every hero in RP has a vicious V and a 12 pack of abs... you know that... For once, I'd love to see someone play 'themselves' in an RP role...

I would, but then people would complain about how I'm such a powergamer with all those high stats.

Low Str and high Con is a little baby with a good health.
High Str and low Con is for example a war veteran who has drunk too much and now he starts to suffer a disease.
