I found something Core that doesn't fit in Eberron!

The gith races aren't core, are they? I may be wrong, but I seem to remember them being in either the psi book or the planes book, not one of the three core books.

Johnny summed up what I have to say on the subject. Eberron is not the first place the Daelkyr have attacked. The Daelkyr created the illithids. Thus, if the Daelkyr destroyed Gith civilization, you can even keep your Gith-Mind Flayer hatred. Perhaps mind flayers were actually bred from the core Gith race, just as dolgaunts were made from hobgoblins.

Personally, if I run the setting I'm putting the 'zeri in the far shadow plane instead (and giving it some morphic traits). A little close to cannon, and they just need a hostile, morphic environment to fit into their cannon role well.

I knew I was missing something. What I had meant was more that the Gith races as presented, an ancient human race enslaved by an illithid empire. That still don't fit, I think.
I had considered after posting the question that they could be failed Quori breeding attempts. Like the empty vessels, but too powerful and independant. The Gith toiled under the Inspired until some high-level Gith got plane shift. The Githzerai could even be allies of the kalashtar.

EDIT: The only reason it's a "big deal" is because Eberron claims to have a place for everything core.

Maybe, maybe not. There's certainly plenty of wiggle room in the cosmology and timeline.

But most of the iconic D&D races have had their backgrounds tweaked in Eberron --- though none so severely that they are unrecognizable.
