I got a copy of CROOKS for M&M...

Freedom City was designed by Steve Kenson -- in fact, most of the design work was done before he ever wrote the M&M rules and it was originally for some other superhero game system... ;)

META-4 was created by the guys at Super Unicorn, as a background for the artwork they did for the M&M core rulebook. Green Ronin never asked Super Unicorn to make a whole backstory and separate universe just to support some graphics, but once the wheels in those guys' heads starts turning... :D

us fans thought the little hints SU had given us about the META-4 world (through the pictures, some text accompanying the sample villains in the book, and stuff they've mentioned on the boards) were so cool, we practically demanded a META-4 worldbook to flesh the whole thing out!

the two were designed as isolated settings, but there's nothing stopping you from dropping Freedom City into the META-4 world (in fact, this is most likely what i would do with them...).

I agree that melding Meta-4 and Freedom City is probably fine, but I just love the idea of a dimension-hopping mega-crossover! :)

I'm very much looking forward to the Annual. Info on WWII and far future supers? Sign me up! :D

great review.

thanks

btw, what was the new power in crooks?

Variable Effect...think of it as being the equivalent of the HERO System's Vaiable Power Pool (only not as ungodly overpowered).

It still looks kind of sketchy to my eyes, but, YMMV.

Is it basically the Gadgets power without the device flaw?

Since I have not yeat seen CROOKS! available, and since Butcher Boy captured my imagination since I saw his picture and reference, BUT NO STATS (and Murder Man, whose name I now know)...

Billy, can you give me a brief rundown of his shtick? Is he basically a version of Marvel's Bullseye, or something much meaner?

In general terms, what does the vampire template look like? After seeing Underworld, my players are asking me to revive our old Vampire: the Masquerade chronicle, and since I sold my Vampire books along with the bulk of my gaming stuff, I'll be using M&M as the engine. Just wondering if Crooks! will save me some work.

Well, conceptually, you got pretty close...Murder Man and Butcher Boy are indeed apretty close analog of Marvel's Kingpin and Bullseye in terms of roles served in a campaign setting (Murder Man: Criminal Underworld Overlord. Butcher Boy: Homicidal Henchman), but it is far from an exact copy.

It looks like the "Standard" vampire to my eyes, and lacks the variety that the WOD gives with their various vampire clans. There is some room for tweaking (and more than a few option for doing so provided), but I think to model the World of Darkness will likely require a bit more work on your part than just providing the template.
