I got my copy of EN World Player's Journal!!

One issue . . .

The problem I have with it (and it's only a problem since I've done professional magazine design) is placement of some advertisements.

Inner gutter, left page for a third-page vertical ad is very bad ad placement. That's the type of thing that would have had me giving away ads at my old job. Please keep those third page vertical ads to the outside of the page and right-hand page if at all possible.

Other than that everything looked good.

Oh. OK. I freely admit that I've not done professional magazine design before, and noone's ever told me that sort of thing. I thought it was sensible to keep it away from the edges, because you'd get two, long solid sections together, but I wasn't really thinking in terms of binding at that stage, more looking at it in terms of single pages. It will be borne in mind for any future issues, and it will be no problem to overcome, I'm sure. Thanks for the advice -- hope it doesn't spoil your enjoyment too much. Can you read it in a mirror, perhaps? ;)

Doesn't affect my enjoyment . . .

It's one minor thing that you didn't know and now you do. Don't let it bother you. Take it as a small education in magazine design and keep plugging away.

Sorry if I made it sound like I couldn't enjoy the magazine because of the placement of a few ads.

If you'd like, ship me a PDF of the next issue before it goes to print and I'll give you some suggestions.

I want to see one too! I'm really jealous now.

Me too! Ironic, isn't it - the people who actually put the magazine together are the last ones to actually see it! :D

I can't wait to get mine either cause I'd like to see the artwork for my article... disgusting little buggers... its always a really cool trip for me when I see professional artwork for something that I wrote...:)

For what it is worth (and admittedly not much) your article was the first article I read. I thought it was very neat. The artwork was also nice. I liked the picture of the thief ape things.

I got my second copy today.

(looking at my copy.. in today)
OH MY GOODNESS THIS IS AWESOME!!!
First, to the artist Fil Kearney whom I've never had the chance to meet... THANKS!!! You did a top notch job on these!!!
I especially like the image of the grabber ape... I was really worried about that one because my own concept sketch wasn't really getting at what I was trying to invision... your art on this is terrific!!! One more thing on this... I really liked the overall look of many of these creatures...including the stink rat in this particular case. An old 80's home computer game called Legacy Of The Ancients (and also Legacy Of Blacksilver) has often inspired me to break away some from the traditional fantasy monsters and add a touch of "alien fantasy" I guess you would say and the look of the art really hit home with this.

Trentonjoe...THANKS for the compliment! I am big into fleshing out the low level gaming aspects... particularly 1st level... but wanted to have something more than "sword fodder".... thus the special features of the creatures, such as the grabber apes tendency to run by and steal and the stench of the stink rat (though admittingly a skunk could also do this)... maybe Morrus will let me do a Disgusting Little Buggers 2 one day and I can come up with some more low level creatures.
