I just started a new job to help with holiday money. Toys R Us. Was unloading a truck tonight. A few cases were marked " Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers Extended DVD edtion" with other labels "Don't open until November 18" :( Since I just started, I don't know where they will be kept until then.

You are a disgrace to fantasy fans everywhere. I would say you deserve to die if leaving you to continue to wallow in your pathetic existence wasn't an even worse fate.

;)

Last year the Wal Mart here put out the extended edition of Lord of the Rings right before Halloween(a whole month early), they had a big display and everything, until the day shift got there and the manager saw it, a friend of mine just happened to be shopping and got one before they got it taken down. The Wal Mart here frequently messes up on movie release dates, if you catch them before they catch their mistake. Sometimes shopping late at night pays off.

That's just horrible torture. I admire your willpower in not swiping a copy. And I hate you for it. :D

So we're talking about the $40 ($26 at Amazon, but only $23.40 for me because of the Share the Love thing someone sent me) set here, right?

Is the Platinum Series Special Extended Edition the ultimate of the LOTR DVDs? (Pending the Titanium Series Extra Special Super Extended Complete Collection, of course...) Because that's what I have for the FOTR, and I want to continue my collection in the same vein for TTT.

Am I using enough acronyms? :D

There are two versions of Extended Editions? All I know is the regular Extended Edition and the Collector's Gift Set (will include Gollum figure).

I have the Extended Edition FOTR Collector's Gift Set (with the two Argonath figures and National Geographic DVD), but the Extended Edition DVD set included is no different than the regular Extended Edition. I'm sure it will remain the same, although the package could be different.

Ranger REG, of course they'll put out a Titanium Series Extra Special Super Extended Complete Collection. After all, it works for George Lucas, why shouldn't it work for this director, too?

Just you wait a few years, and we'll see compilations put out that will make a bunch of people run to the store to buy new copies, simply because it includes five extra minutes of movie (never mind that those five minutes ended up on the cutting room floor for a reason...).

Feh. The production companies will do whatever marketing gimmicks they could use to convince us to buy them, if not to appeal toward new customers who haven't bought them. So, I would not be surprised if they will package ALL THREE films into one collection set anytime AFTER the final film is aired.

I mean look at Disney. Every time they "let the film out of the vault for a one-time special offer for a limited time until they put it back into the vault." That gimmick always sounds familiar.
