That's great alsih20!!! I'm glad you were able to walk some newbies through the game - I have a feeling this winter I will be doing the same for a group of my friends (it's too hard to get them to SIT STILL in the summer). Dori sounds like a hoot - I hope you guys play many more games together!

Hmm. I ran a newbie game myself last night (my first gaming in about 9 months), but mine went a little different.

The players were my girlfriend and a couple we knew. My girlfriend ran a 3.5'd elven ranger and had a blast! Her first -fun- gaming experience, after a lot of false starts. Our friend (the boyfriend) was a dwarven cleric. He hadn't played in years, so apart from having to explain some 3rd (and 3.5) Editionisms to him, he did alright. Definitely the best "role"-player of the group. His girlfriend however, the only one with zero gaming experience, was a bit lackluster. She made the unfortunate decision early on to smoke pot, and was never able to get her mind on task. She asked a lot of pointless and silly questions about picking up hookers, and was very upset that she couldn't play as a Butterfly of Death (whatever that is). But mostly she just sat there, waiting for people to tell her what to do. She also had what turned out to be the weakest character, despite my attempts to prod her towards something more fun to play.

So next time it will be the boyfriend, possibly his brother, my girlfriend, and hopefully one more person (double hopefully, a non-stoner non-newbie).

Wow, that sounds like tons of fun. Cherish these moments, pretty soon they'll want to play half-dragon troll werebear ranger/assassins with a +9 against ogres.

Mark, congratulations on the "new player odyssey!"

Hopefully, the construction worker and the rapper will be able to join in next time! (I just love the sound of that! :))
