I have a noob question

Does shiftin 1 square prevoke a opertunity attack? I did not see anything that I could serch for that quesion on this forum so I am just asking. When I DM I let my players shift 1 square and it does not prevoke a opertunity attack I just need to know if I am doing that correctly, thanks for any answers.

No, it does not provoke. This is covered in the description of the Shift action in the Combat chapter of the Player's Handbook.

Nope shifting does not provoke OAs. That is the whole point of it, giving up your entire move action to move one square (normally) but at least you do not provoke.

And this is why powers that allow you to shift more than on square are so powerful (expeditious retreat, anyone?). Gotta LOVE anything that lets you shift a lot. You RULE the battlefield.
