For most of my remembered youth, I lived in the Soutwest, and I don't get it. Is that okay?

Humidity is far worse than heat!

I totally agree with that statement. In Adelaide we get some days in the summer that get to 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit). However it is generally a very dry heat. Sure it is hot, but I can deal with that.

On very rare occasions we will get a low 30's degrees Celsius (85-90 degrees Fahrenheit) with high humidity. On those days I seem to really feel the heat and can't seem to get cool. I also dislike how your clothes feel all hot and sweaty and just seem to cling to you.

Sure it is. Because the South is not the Southwest. Two vastly different cultural areas.

South = sweat tea, crawfish, waitresses that call everyone "hun," oppressively damp heat

Southwest = desert, Native Americans, turquoise, dry heat



Now, I realize I made some gross generalizations there and didn't mean to offend anyone if I accidentally did. Clearly there is more to both regions than I state above! I'm just using the gross generalizations to make the point that The South is nowhere close to the same as the Southwest!

I know; I just meant by cultural impressions. It is totally different from AZ.

To be fair, I think your original point is true. California is probably its own distinct region! I certainly wouldn'ty lump california in with AZ, NM, OK, TX ... however Nevada may be closer to CA than the other Southwest.
