I have been taken hostage by a Dragon!

Emerald

First Post
I am playing a Neutral Good Fighter who lives for the good fight. He is currently with a party that is trying to save the world, we are "led" by a paladin.

Last game, while searching for the entrance to a dungeon that is at the bottom of a lake we ran into a Blue Dragon. We made little progress in attacking the Dragon between him flying and swimming. But when it opportunity presented itself I launched myself at the dragon and did quite a bit of damage. Unfortunately, the dragon then dropped me on the next round to 0 hp. I feined death, but the dragon was not fooled. The Dragon scooped me up flew high above the lake, said he wanted to negotiate with the paladin (who was currently indisposed having been teleported to the other side of the door) and flew off with me.

Now, at 0 hp my options are extremely limited. I know that the paladin will never negotiate with an evil dragon, so there is no hope in that route. My best option now appears to be to try and arrange to be killed in such a way that my party can retrieve my body and have me raised (I see this as a perfectly good solution) but I am unsure how to arrange for such a thing.

Any ideas on how to set this up? Or is there another way out that I am just to blind to see? My character is rather intelligent but not very wise.

Thanks,
Emerald

Worst comes to worst, assume your character panics. In his mad rush to escape he will take to many actions to remain at 0hp and drop to -1. He then starts dying from blood loss. Assuming the dragon does not use a heal spell to bring you conscious you're fine. Of course, the dragon could just get a little peckish and... :D

Bummer......Yeah, be patient. Your DM likely has some PC option to get you (or at least part of you) back.

Best of luck, and let us know how you escape/get rescued (I'm trying to be optimistic) :)

Now why, exactly, is "led" in quotes here? T'rell not doing a good job? Just 'cause you're about to be a dragon snack... ;)

That wasn't my fault! The bard Dimension-Doored me! I thought he was casting a healing spell or something... :)

For reference, we assume this dragon laired at the bottom the the lake. When my paladin finally got the door open to return to the fight, the lake drained past him (it was designed to do this. There was a safe place to stand and let the water shoot past me into a pit). Then the session ended.

The dragon's demand is that he will release the fighter and let us live if the shiny one (that's me) agrees to pay him 10,000gp. This is not the kind of deal a paladin likes to make, especially since they are forbidden to lie.

The only thing I'm holding out hope for is that the dragon's treasure is on the bottom of the now-drained lake. I might could be convinced to buy back the fighter using the dragon's own gold... Though I doubt the dragon would be very pleased when he flew down and we announced this plan to him.

T'rell isn't about to just give you up for dead, though. He'll embark on a daring rescue, against insurmountable odds, alone if need be, to recover you! Of course, last time he went 1-on-1 against a dragon he was the one who needed rescuing... but he's tougher now!

The DM, by the way, ended the session with the announcement, "Well, now that I know the CR for dragons is seriously out of whack..." I could have told him that. He doesn't hang out online, though...

Well the CR for dragons are set as if the PC's prepared for the dragon knowing its weaknesses. Not for a random encounter. For random encounters ya gotta pump that cr by 2 or 3, sometimes as high as 5 higher then listed.

I don't know, I think you are doing good. Spend some time with the dragon, talk with him (sure it is a he;) not that that matters:eek: ). Forget the Paladin, think about yourself!

Yeah, well, the DM didn't know that. Now, he does. But it's a bit too late for us.

He was actually cutting us a break having the dragon flee with our fighter to negotiate. This sucker could have just kept fighting and likely killed us. I guess he was role-playing its greed for treasure or something.
