An Advanced Class to be an engineer?

Presmyopia or prestimyopia; the inability to see beyond prestige classes. It's not as bad in Modern as it is in DnD. Not yet, anyway.

But that's not what it means. Of course you can be an engineer without the advanced class, just as you can be a knight of the watch in DnD with only ranks in fighter. It's just a name for a mechanic. I mean you can still take the ranks int he appropriate skills right? No one's stopping you... so you're an engineer. A character with ranks in the right AdC or PrC is just more of a devoted specialist.

Just because there is a class called 'Mechanic' doesn't mean that only PCs with ranks in that class can be a mechanic. There is a difference between the terms we use for the mechanics of the game and the meaning of those words in a role-playing sense.

I would've liked transforming mecha, but I guess those had to go for space reasons. :(

Brad

Oh, there's a simple way to handle that: Build a Mecha Robot, then build a vehicule the same size, and add a Gadget called a "Transforming Gear System" which allows a pilot to switch from Robot Mode to Vehicule Mode at the flip of a switch.

Voila! Instant Transforming Mecha! In fact, you don't even need a vehicule mode: you can easily make the transformation between two robot modes.
