I've never lost a dice bag fortunatly, though my father did take mine away once in high school. That was bad enough even though he eventually gave them back. (Nothing to do with satanism or anything. It was more of a "you're too old to be playing 'make-believe' games" thing mixed with the "wrong crowd" thing after some idiot brought his pothead friend to a game at my house once. My dad has an excellent sense of smell and could smell it in the guys clothes (and was aquainted with the smell because of one of my older stepbrothers).
Since then, I've always kept my dice seperate. I have a bag of "active" dice in my gaming bag for play on the road. I have my "home" set that sits in a box for play at home. That set also has most of the 'novelty' dice in it. I have some special dice put away like my first set of dice from my original boxed set. I also have another travelling set of dice I've been known to keep in my briefcase in case players email me at work about stuff.
I'm 31 now and it's not like I'm worried about my dad taking my dice. It's just more convenient this way not to have to haul one bag around everywhere I play and keep track of it. Instead, I've got dice most places I go. Besides, it's not like I'll ever lose *ALL* of my dice this way.
In fact, I've never lost a bag, though I suspect that's more due to being extremely careful about making sure I always leave with everything I came with when I go places.
