I killed a Kobold. Killed him dead.

Nice shot! The only times I've seen rays of frost drop enemies is when they're used by the rogue/wiz to do sneak attacks. Good use of cantrips (though for future reference, daze only works on humanoids).

Heh. Drat it all, you're right. The silly thing is, I knew an ogre was a giant, not a humanoid....we just plum forgot the limitation on daze.

The dice just loved me last night, was all. The kobold chief was a Sor1/Rog1 and while his men were swarming us, he appeared out of nowhere and sneak-attacked my 2nd level sorceror.....and then rolled double 1s. My soreceror is an enchanter specialist, so the only damage spells I have are Ray of Frost and Disrupt Undead.

The party cut through his entire tribe of 23 kobolds and him in one titanic combat. It was AWESOME. We ran into the ogre on the way out, guarding the door. One tangelfoot bag later, we settled his hash.

Amusingly enough, most of my best use of spells has been with the cantrips. We literally ran to the fourth session before I had occasion to use a 1st level spell.

It's Hella-fun.

Once whilst I was DMing a sorcerer (I think) attacked a Drow with a Xbow. I rolled the d20, it was 20, 19, 17, 5 (rolled the last one just to see). Using the automatic kill varient that Drow was dead. That was cool.

The instakill variant only works on natural 20s on the first confirmation roll, no matter what the weapon's threat range is.

Hmmm... I didn't think you could critical with Ray of Enfeeblement on account of the fact that it didn't deal damage (it's a penalty not damage), much like you can't critically hit with Bull's Strength.

I think it was the necromancers only hit of the night, touch spell after touch spell failing.

He needed a boost and we were a round or two from a TPK... I think the rules kind of went out the window when he rolled a 20 and then a 17 on the Ray... BBEG lost most of his ability to do damage with that Ray o' Feebs.

Pretty intense session. All told...

Cool! Barakus is a great campaign. My party is going through it now. A couple of weeks ago, they took out the kobolds in an epic battle that left Area 1-19 strewn with the corpses of the dead. This week they levelled (to 2nd Level), and proceeded to take out 3(!!) ogres. (They had lots of luck with the Sleep spell, and the barbarian is now called "The Executioner.")

D&D is just lots of fun.

I had an amazing low level kill a few sessions ago...Lvl 2 Swashbuckler Kender...we use auto death rules if you roll a 20 on a crit check, dropped an evil thug with a normal crit, then the second thug came in, and I rolled 2 20's on the AOO. Dead. It was one of those awesome moments you could never hope to repeat. Burned out all my 20's for that session, I think...

My first 3e campaign (it might have even been the first game), the players were supposed to go after the goblins first, not the half-dragon centaur. The centaur proved nearly impossible for the low level characters to hit. The sorcerer pumping magic missiles into it and eventually rays of frost (after the fighters were all down) was what eventually killed it.

(hehe it's funny how many players' happy low-level memories revolve around rule flubs :))

My recollection is similar to Psion's. We were fighting some kind of winged serpent, and the other characters couldn't hit it. I activated a shield spell and slowly dropped it with magic missiles from my 1st-level wand, while the rest of the party was out of the room, hiding.

Tonight, while our party was adventuring through Barakus
From the title, I was expecting a reprise of the Sunless Citadel - "This time we took care of Meepo the right way." :]
