I like being railroaded

I have noticed a lot of discussions here, and it seems to be agrred upon that railroading is universaaly a bad thing. I have also heard complainta from players before on various forums about their DM railroading them. Well, I LIKE being raildroaded, I do not mind at all if we meet an enemy we can not defeat or if we HAVE to do something. It really does not bother me at all. One time I also had the opportunity to use a teleport spell to get us to where we needed to go instead of using a boat, I made no mention that I could cast the spell to the others players and we rode the boat, and had a fun time of it. As long as there is a good story, I do not mind being railroaded. Heh, I bet I am some DM's dream player.

Baaa.

There's a twelve step program for this sort of thing. Repeat after me "My name is Galeros, and I like having no illusion of free will." ;)

Honestly, as long as you're having fun -- have fun! Who are we to criticize what you enjoy?

I also like broccoli, but not with every meal :)

Sounds like you've been fortunate enough to have GMs who know how to use a little "plot direction" without destroying the PCs' free will. That's cool. I think people get annoyed when it seems NOTHING they do has any effect on the plot.

Railroading is not bad. All adventures are railroads. The difference is a good adventure the DM has the players agreeing with what to do, in a bad once the DM forces the players into what to do.

Yep, I like being led by nose by dm, or some other player for that matter, if I am out of ideas, bored, or don't know where the hell I should go next to do something relevant.

I like my games either with lot of combat and finding stuff themes or with meaningful plots that include combat and roleplay and all the rest.

I got old. My time for roleplaying games got shorter. So, I can't spend session after session doing some irrelevant role-playing stuff. It was fun when I got to play each and every day (or at least every second day), but now week or two can pass between sessions, and I want to remember what happened (and it's easier to remember and make notes if it's something relevant that moves plot on).

Or, alternative way is give me session of hack'slash fun.

I never liked dm's who wait hours after hours players to solve some stupid puzzle without enough clues. And I hate puzzles for players anyway, it should be characters solving them, no me.
(puzzle could simple be where to go next with).

Then again I don't think what I like should be called rail-roading at all. It's rather art of keeping players informed and interested.

Sometimes, though I drop into silent passivity when I wait for someone to tell what to do. Not what I should do. But maybe just do something. And I can't bring myself do anything.

The point of the game is to have fun. Game direction becomes railroading when the DM takes the players someplace they don't want to go. Some direction is almost always needed, if for no other reason that a DM can't create such a complete world that the players can make complete decisions. Even if the player knows what they want to do, the DM still has to make up all the conditions that are avialable to the players.

Based on some of the railroading threads I have read some players seem to expect that they will be able to pick a direction and a task, decide the plot themselves, but still get a great adventure as good as one the Dm spent a couple of weeks working on.

These are people who need to DM themselves. All the time. I mean, its easy right? ;)

Yes, I too enjoy being railroaded. I also enjoy wandering off the beaten path. I like watching plot lines rub shoulders with each other on an empty gaming grid. I like the game. The game is good. I also like pie.
