I lost my Angel "virginity" last night

It took me quite a while to get into Buffy. I mean, I'd seen a few episodes on tv and while I found it mildly amusing, It simply did not grab me. Then, finding nothing else I was in the mood for, I rented Buffy vol. 1.1 VHS with the first four episodes. Found it rather fun, but still nothing remarkable. Some months later I rented vol 1.2 but still wasn't impressed. Now, when I saw vol. 1.3 (with the season one finale and more) I was hooked. That finale was just so damn great! This was three years ago or so. Since then I've seen all of the Buffyverse stuff.

Similar story with Friends. Had seen a bunch of episodes now and then and while I found it amusing, I didn't understand why it was so wildly popular. There were much funnier sitcoms out there. Last summer, I decided to try to understand it's appeal. It ended with me watching all nine seasons on video.

I had never watched any Buffy or Angel until my friend convinced me too. Then I watched Buffy season's 1-5 in like a 2 week time frame. Its taking me a bit longer to get in to Angel. I have watched a few episodes.. but not alot.

Survivor and big brother are addictive.. :)

Scene: MEG Hal is typing away happily at his computer. Suddenly, Bad Vampire Angel grabs him from behind, bites him in the neck, and begins draining his blood. When finished, Angel snaps Hal's neck with a fluid motion; Hal's body falls to the ground with a leaden *thump*.

Bad Angel: "So, was it good for you, too?"

One can only hope... :]

Although I saw the first two-parter from season one when it first aired, I didn't become a regular Buffy viewer until halfway through season three. My girlfriend and I are the only people we know who watch any Buffyverse, and I had to practically tie her down and use the Ludovigo Technique to get her to get into it (she thought it was just another dumb WB teen show like I normally watched, a la The Creek). It's weird how as good as it is, it doesn't seem to draw people in readily.

I didn't get into Buffy until it was on FX (roughly at the end of season 5). Didn't get nto watching the new episodes until a couple into season 7.

Didn't start watching Angel until the last 4 episodes of season 4.

I didn't start watching Seaquest until it was on SciFi channel.

My secret shame is that I didn't get into Babylon 5 until the fifth season. My friend convinced me to watch it and I then watched every episode as they showed it on SFC religiously until I was caught up.

It's up there with M*A*S*H and (I'll get stoned for saying it) Friends.

See you're not getting stoned yet ;). Anyways, I think that Friends is quality television. The writing is good, and moreover it's pretty consistent in quality. There just don't seem to be 'bad' Friends episodes. I also really like Will & Grace (and Dawson's Creek and (secret shame) Everwood (okay go ahead stone me !)).

As for Buffy & Angel, I really think that these shows work best in the dvd-format. The ability to watch when you feel like it, as many episodes in a row as you want without commercial breaks...Bliss !

The first couple of seasons were rather weak and without direction. Wesley was a putz, Cordelia was just comic relief, and Angel was dark and broody without anything specific to focus on, so you didn't get to see how there was a badass hiding under all of that angst.

Once Lorn and Fred joined the team and Cordelia got put into a coma, it became the quintessential D20 Modern campaign. Every character had a role. You had strong heroes, smart heroes, charismatic heroes. Great stuff.
