I mailed back my 3.5 D&D books for a refund today...

My wife buys stuff and then takes it back to exchange it all the time. We went through three or four sets of interior house paint before she found what she really likes. Home Depot takes returns too.

Or does that not count?

Frankly (and sorry) I don't have too much sympathy for someone who bought the books and then decided they didn't like them. It's not like there wasn't plenty of previews to let you know what you were getting into.

Thats okay, I purchased 12 additional sets of 3.5 so WOTC would think it was a success and make a 4.0.

I also ordered an extra hamburger and threw it out when the guy sitting next me at the restaurant ordered a vegetarian meal.

Plus, some guy pulled into the gas station with a hybrid electric car, I poured an extra gallon of gas on the ground, killed 2 (or more) birds with 1 stone so to speak. :p

I heard a guy on a plane when asked his weight reply Im "400 lbs." when the stewaedess replied you cant be over 150! he added "Oh but you see I added 10 lbs for each of the women on this side of the plane so it would all balance out . . . :D

Wonderful! I'm sure those books wouldn't have come in handy next time you need to find a new group to game with. I'm absolutely certain that future DMs and players will commend you on your preference of books and superior consumerism when they are using the new system while you are still carting around your old relics and trying to play in their game.

Good job!

That's a good one. I'll have to tell my group when we reconvene for D&D after our short hiatus that we are now officially playing with relics. 3 year old relics, but relics nontheless.

Now THAT is funny! ;)

My FLGS doesn't do refunds either. Instead, they give in-store credit, but at the rate of what they would give when they buy a used book from you. So basically if you don't like something and return it, you get store credit for half of what you paid. No thanks.

I am glad to see Capitalism working. Instead, I downloaded the SRD for future reference but of the 3 gaming groups that I am in, none are doing 3.5.

Hmmm.... in my group I... yes, I... am the only one who owns the 3.5 books. I didn't campaign against them or anything (that mantle fell to one of my liberal "corporations are evil" players, but nobody took him seriously.) In my group, or groups like it (which I can't imagine are rare), I'm sure his trusty old books would work fine.

I hardly see how it is somehow praiseworthy that some of you have successfully browbeat your members into buying new books. (Mind you I'm not judging you if that is right for your group, I'm just saying, I don't see how anyone deserves derision for not updating to the shiny new version.)

3.0 is far from a relic. There will be a LOT of gamers who won't upgrade to 3.5 because they've bought their 3.0 games later than the day it came out and so they don't want to pitch all their books a year after buying them.

Yes, I bought the 3.5 books. The next campaign I run I'll use the 3.5 rules but this campaign is just fine with 3.0 rules.

It's nice to see someone who just doesn't buy into the party line. You don't HAVE to buy 3.5 if you don't want to. It doesn't make you a bad person or a luddite, it just makes you a good consumer because you evaluated an upgrade and decided you didn't need it.

Give the guy a break.

Just because it bears repeating.
