I need a small port city.

No problem. :)
The Forge has put out some excellent free downloads, and I really like their maps. They are located in Poland, I believe, so occasionally the translation of some of the text sounds a bit odd, but the work that they do is excellent. I hit them up for stuff for my game all the time.
Rich, I love you, man!

In a world with instantaneous communication and fast, sometimes instantaneous travel, I'm not sure why 4,000 colonists setting up shop quickly is implausible.

That's why I said "on the off chance." Not all DM's like to assume that instantaneous communication and teleportation are as common as they are in the real world. Some work to limit the magic in their worlds so that they don't have to explain why something that is as prevelant, more powerful and less limited than modern technology doesn't result in a world that is MORE technologically advanced than our own.

THX for compliments :)
We try to improve our English however it is very difficult task.
“Fish side” and “Ygron’s Bridge” have been already proofread by English native speaker (big thanks to Riley Williams), so I hope they are easier to read. Currently we are working on “Cartographer” - new revised version will be available soon.

If somebody is willing to help us and proofread Free material please send me an email:
maciek at theforge.pl

And yes we are from Poland. ;)

Freeport could work! I'm surprised this hasn't come up yet.

I'm just a player but I always got the impression Freeport was located in a Carribean-eguivalent archipelago near a New World.

I've run a campaign in Freeport, and I'd say it's far too lawless for what the original poster is looking for. Also, the included backstory has the town being much older. If you were to take out all of that, you would have to do a great deal of work.

Freeport is an excellent setting, but not for this purpose. :)

I hope that my comment about the English translation didn't come across as a negative thing, I don't mind, as the content you have is excellent. Just something that took a bit of getting used to when I was first reading your work.

Excellent! Looking forward to your next projects.

Let me also suggest Liberty, the city from The Game Mechanics' City Quarters series. Not only are they great products that give you tons of detail, you can also use the books as modular city sections for OTHER cities.

Maybe Helmsport-Ulatos from Maztica FR AD&D.
"Fires of Zetal" with descripition of this new wold city is free downlad:

It's a question of month, The Forge will release 2nd part of "Strongholds", description of small town, 1000 souls. Beta pic and excerpts:

III, 6: CALL to ARMS
The decision is up to the ruler of the town. It is war. In the temple the bell tolls. For that sign as given from heaven the other chapells respond, waking the neighbors further and further until the sound rings in the whole barony. On the top of the castle there is a sudden flame. Like lighten up from a single spark, the signaling devices on the vassals’ donjons are gradually being lit up, transmitting the signal to the ends of the feud. The barony at night glitters now like a starlit sky. From the castle’s gate dozens of riders with raised torches start their ride, bringing call to arms to the knights. Prester in the silence of his chamber reads a scroll – and in the same second the Count knows his feud is on fire.
In hundred manors there are hectic comings and goings: the squires are saddling the horses and armoring their knights. After a while trains ride to the town, adjoining to the three horse teams of warriors met on the road. The net of the town’s roads is being filled with streams of steel, dust and banners gleaming in the light of an county dawn.
In the meantime the capital doesn’t lay lazy. A great ring of Road Wardens surrounds several dozens of wagons waiting before castle gates. On the tournament fields the captains point with their banners the place in the battle order. The trains divide: the knights form the company of knights, the men-at-arms – a squadron of infantry.
The horns blow. The baron in the company of a Prester, Journeyman Mage, clerics and guards ride into the troops. Restraining his horse, he points the direction. Behind his banner there forms a steel snake, surrounded by ring of Road Wardens. Among the weeping of wives, dogs’ barking, in the dust the army vanish beyond the forest.

Hey, zagorm; I'd be glad to look over your future products with an eye towards catching the "non-native speakerisms."

As to my qualifications, my current job is as writer and editor of all announcements, press releases, and presentations of the Purchasing System's group of a major Fortune 500 Company.

Not trying to too my own horn, just point out that I do have some wherewithal in terms of editing. Plus, an offer to help, if you're interested.
