I need help creating a riddle quick! (players stay out)

Lordnightshade

First Post
In planning for my game (tomorrow) my PCs will be encountering a series of doors that lead to different locations in a dungeon.

Each door has a riddle on it that relates to what is contained in the room.

I just have two left to detail. One is the Library, the other is a private bath.

What I need are two riddles.

One with an answer like "Knowledge" or something that has to do with a library.

The other with the answer "Relaxation" or something that has to do with a bath.

They shouldn't be too long, and dificulty can be either hard or easy.

If you want to go the anagram route, you could use any of the following:

Anagrams for RELAXATION:
A REAL TIN OX
A REAL TOXIN
A RELIANT OX
I ROT AN AXLE

Anagrams for KNOWLEDGE:
WOK LEGEND
WE LED KONG
NO LEWD KEG
NEW ELK GOD
OLD KEG NEW

Johnathan

naw, I don't really want an anagram. I want the riddle to have this kind of flavor. Here is one of the riddles on one of the other doors:

Capture, bind, under my spell,
No other creature half as fell.

I catch my thralls by moonlight,
My toxin sets their minds alight.

And when they die and rot and swell,
They take me with them into hell.

But until one has felt my merciless bite,
Lack reason to live, die or fight.

The answer is: [edited out so you can try to solve it]

So if I could get something simular for Knowledge and Relaxation that would be great!

How bout:

Within you will find,
Strength for the old
Silence for the blind
Greater than gold
An eternal mind

Dense with lore,
And power to rule
Beyond this door
An unending school
Of Dark secrets and more.

do you think that's too hard?

Okay, here's another way you could go about it. There's a type of riddle where the answer lies in plain sight. (There's a name for this type of riddle, but I don't recall what it is.) One door could have the following verse engraved upon it:

KNIGHTS NEED ONLY WISDOM: LEARNING ENABLES DEMONSTRATED GREATNESS EARLY

The answer ("knowledge") is not only referred to by the verse, it is also the result of taking the first letter from each of the nine words in the verse.

Obviously, you wouldn't want to use this type of riddle more than once in the same dungeon (once you "get" the trick involved, further riddles of the same type become rather easy to figure out), but it would make a change and might force the players to switch mental gears.

Just an idea.

Take a book from the shelf to find it,
but if when spoken tis true,
then no shelf will you find.

Answer: Knowledge / No Ledge

(phonetically the same, which would do for a command word effect)

I just made this one up right now, for the Library:

My tools are a score, with only 6 more
You must know my patterns if you go through this door.

Answer: Alphabet

Here's a quick one for a Bath house:

On warm days, I sit, with children I play
Yet leave me alone, and it's stone that I flay.
When it is cold, I lie near the sun
In spite of this warmth, fire finds me no fun.

Answer: Water

Some find it with friends,
some find it in a tavern,
some find it in the theater,
some even find it running,
although most find it at rest,
but none find it working.

Answer: Relaxation

This is fun give me some more to do.

Companion of candle,
In darkness shines through,
Friend of the bell,
All within will ring true,
With no compass direction,
West, east, south or north,
It holds what is moving,
Without pouring forth,
But to some, hidden meaning,
In silence they rest,
Opened, the characters,
Give you their best.

Book of Knowledge

Thrown with babies that are crying,
It will be so satisfying,
Stay too deep and you'll be dying,
With the pruning of your skin,
But your Mother is approving,
All the travels you're removing,
And your status you're improving,
Even as you sink within.
