I Need Ideas!!!

A jack of all trades that is not a bard.

A ftr4/bar2/rog1/wiz3/sor2.

High int, so that he has lots of skills.

He has an answer for EVERYTHING.

1.This one is alittle hard to pull off, but if done write can be a very intresting plot hook.

In yoru History you where a bard, in a noble's family. You used yoru influence to smuggle goods & any thig else. The law discovered you, and usted up your organization. You had to flee from the city and hide out in the wilderness. Here you became a bard/ranger bandit, who takes leadership and rob's from people.

Eventually you become an outlaw of the Crimson Road, for an intresting combat bonus, add in Whip Lasher level's. With the right feat's you can suprise attack people, disarm them, and have bandits looting them immediately. Not to mention the vast rescources you have at yoru disposal. You could even be secretly influencing the polictial siuation of the city you were exiled from, prepairing for your return.

2. How about a Planar Champion, who was bound to the material plane, after loosing a battle with a powerful demon or devil. You need to find help and a way to remove this binding, so you can return from exile and stop this powerful demon or devil from shifting the balance in the multtiverse, even if the shift is temporary and easily fixed by others after it occurs, many countless lives will be lost during the inbalance.

3. How about a Ghostwalker, Wandering from town to town righting wrong, trying to bring some peace to his soul. The reason he drifts liek this, he accidently killed his family in some strange siuation or was maniplulated into believing it was his fault for the fall of hsi family. Now he feels compelled to helping the helpless, always moving hopeing one day to atone for his sin.

This type of character does not need to be evil, it best suits an neutral alignment, with lots of potential development. Perhaps other PC's could help him out, and influence him into becoming good, and convincing him to use his vast rescources like a Robin Hood character.
 

A sniper (combination fighter/rogue with skills and feats that emphasize hiding, hunting, targeting and archery)

A painter (possible a cleric of the arts or a rogue/expert who seeks to perfect his painting skills and wishes to capture monsters and exotic locales on canvas)

monster hunter (ranger with preferred enemies abomination and beasts - this guy makes his living by tracking down and killing exotic monsters - his skills not only allow him to track the beasts but afterwards he can preserve and mount them for sale to rich wizards or museums)
 


Play with age

an 8 year old psion
an "old" elf wizard (this gets into min/maxing)

or ...
A wizard who specializes in constructs - needs some other D20 stuff to get constructs at lower levels,
A rouge afraid of the dark,
A drow with Arachnaephobia,
A halfling looking for a backer to start a mining operation,
An expert (insert field here),
A mage who has used invisibilty so much he in starting to believe he doesn't exist,
The ray/touch attack wielding monk/sorceror,
A lost Irda from Krynn,
A pair of kobolds that share the same soul,
A goofball that thinks that trees are an elaborate illusion devised by demons,
A cleric who worships Joey, the god of underwater basket weaving ( and gets real nasty when someone insults his god),
A mage who needs dragon scales to finish a potion, but in his research confused dragons with (insert monster here).
 

If you really really want to play a character that is different from everyone else, and I mean a character concept that nobody uses, I have a suggestion...

Play the ranger as published in the PHB.

How about a half-orc with a level of fighter or ranger and a few of wizard? Since the recent death of his human mother (natural causes), he has been searching for his human half-brother, a tracker who has traveled far away from home, but regularly sends money home to support the family. The orc is a bit of a bookworm (hence the wizardry), but regularly played in the woods with his brother, who taught him how to hunt and defend himself. His mother has died, leaving his half-brother as his only kin, so he no longer has any ties to his home town. Also, his brother has no knowledge of the death of his mother, so the orc feels that he should let him know.
 

How about a really really old gnome fighter (although ranger would be better for the extra skills you'd get thanks to your INT)? Or an old half-orc barbarian? Old, think old!

Maybe he was imprisoned his whole life, and can only start his career as an old, curmudgeony barbarian. Might be better to go with an old war-cleric, though. Yeah. An old, gnome cleric of Heironeous (or whatever war-god you want). Old.
 

Rogue/Sorcerer/Bard. Maximize Tumble and Perform. Pick spells like Prestidigitation, Mage hand, Ventriloquism, and the like.

You barely kill anything but entertain a lot.
 

Rogue/Assassin/Paladin

of course you'll have some explaining to do along the way. Perhaps you were resurrected or had your life spared and chose to try a different life. You might want to choose cleric before paladin to justify the religious learning/devotion needed to gain paladinhood.

I like dwarven sorcerer as well. Yeah, it's out of character for a dwarf, but if you explain it well it would justify exile from the clan and become a good lead-in to go adventuring.

The dwarven sorcerer with a talent for armor or weapon crafting and creating magical arms and armor would be quite appropriate and an immeasurable asset (at least it makes a great NPC).

The "Heroes of High Favor: Dwarves" supplement is good for lots of dwarf ideas. And less than $10!

I think any PrC that starts out rogue can make a lot of sense in a large city. A PC that starts out poor and having to survive in the city later gets lucky and steals a spellbook, or pickpockets a priest or paladin (who takes them in), or impresses a bard while fast-talking their way out of trouble (and the bard shows them how to make honest money), etc. You get the idea.
