I still believe in god, but god no longer believes in me?

Very nice story.

As for what your DM may be planning, it could be any number of things. I would suggest that you avoid too much metagaming and just RP it out. If the writing is any indication, you have no problems with the RP. :) Figure out how the PC would feel. Go through that gamut of emotions and reactions. Make it fun.

Maybe the PC seeks advice from spiritual leaders? Maybe the PC turns away from his faith? Maybe the PC finds more strength in his faith? You know the drill.

I am assuming that your DM, as the Raziel persona, told you that you can have your life back but must give up the path of the saint.

Perhaps this is one of those roleplaying things - Raziel might be telling you that sainthood is not actively pursued but is bestowed by your god for a life time of good works and sacrifice. In other words, you don't strive to become a saint - you strive to do good deeds and sacrifice in the name of your god without expectation of reward and your god then bestows sainthood upon you at his whim.

Or, your DM is telling you something else - like he don't want you to have the power-ups that sainthood provides because he sees it as a detriment to the campaign for some reason. Or it was a test of some sort.... a test that you don't understand at the moment.

At any rate, maybe it is best to discuss this with your DM and find out what his intentions are or why he played thing out the way he did.

Great story, btw.

My character is just trying to become the epitome of goodness, I just happened across the Saint template a while back, thought it looked real cool and asked me DM if it was ok to try to go for something like that because I know he wouldn't ever think of using it because he'd probably never come across it for he doesn't have the book.

You might be right about him having reservations re the template now so I'd better clear the air on that angle for sure.

Cheers BM.

As suggested by Goobermunch, keep the faith. No faith is true, unless it holds fast in the face of adversity. After all, if your diety is shows up in person to offer you a way to life, all you need to do is give up this little thing you've spent your whole life persuing, well, it certainly sounds like a test of faith to me.

On the other hand if you're worried about this from a "omygosh the DM's out to nerf my character concept!" stance, then I'd just sit down and talk to him and let him know your concerns and find out what's going on.

As for rolyplaying oppurtunities, you may want to have a long talk with a mentor in your church, work through this question of your faith, and come out the stronger for it. Or not, as your interests take you.

***ROLLEYES***

Raziel cannot authorize anyone becoming a Saint, who sides with a character wearing such a name. How can we believe in the seriousness of the game? I guess that the undead minautor was likewise called the Bad Mr. Marshmallow.

Navar - cheers mate, I do so hope it's a test, that seems to be the general opinion.

Dr Z - He's definitely going to keep true to his ideals my friend because it is who he is and Raziel can damn well take my life back if he doesn't like it or strip me of all my Paladin/Fist of Raziel abilities if he doesn't like it a lot!

Goob - Good points. Reliq is certainly angry with his god at the moment and does feel both betrayed and very confused. He just hopes that his continuation down the path he has always trod does not in turn count as a betrayal of his gods trust since he made a deal for his life.

Kemrain - More good points and you can make sure that Reliq will do the will of his god whether he damn well likes it or not! I think he will be treading a fine line for the next few weeks, (up until the end of this campaign), as he sorts out the turmoil in his head and I'm hoping to pull off some good role-playing as he does so; it should be fun. Thanks for the compliment BTW but unfortunately I'm not an author..........but I'll give it some thought! ;)

Tim - Cheers Tim, I might even take you up on that and I'm glad you've enjoyed the snippets so far. Watch this space, (actually watch the story hour space but give us a bit of time to sift through our collective memories and notes).

Bastoche - All thoughts welcome mate, even if they only echo others. It helps point me in a direction.

BSF - Cheers again. I definitely have some ideas for Reliq. I think for a while he's going to treat Raziel as like a father who has betrayed him but whom he would still do anything for because it's like family. Furiously angry but always there for him, if you get what I mean. Well it's one idea I'm sort of toying with.

AtB - If it's true that the DM really doesn't want me to have the template then that's still ok with me because it's now given me one hell of a role-playing opportunity to play around with; a chance to really make my character grow.

For the minute, the most important thing is to get that girl out of the temple and lay a good smiting on Karnaks unholy, rumpsteak ass!!! Hopefully Clawron might show up so that we can lay the smackdown on him too, (yeah, in about another 10 levels time!). Then it's just off to the tower of the Necromancer for the grande finale where Reliq will have to make a very tough decision. But more of that later........if I do a story hour!

Once again thanks everyone, both your compliments and your ideas have been most welcome. Keep them coming in and I hope that I can return the favor sometime.

I must now retire for a least 48 hours worth of meditation and communion, (well for the weekend anyway), and will be unable to reply to any more comments but please don't let that stop you as I promise I shall both return and reply on Monday!
