(But seriously, that is how I read rulebooks, and I get by okay!)

If all else fails, just tell your neighbor "I've got a simpler game, I'll teach you that one for the sake of my own sanity." And fill in the blank with your favored ttrpg.

(Why is your neighbor specifically asking for 3.x, btw?)
