I wanna make gods...help please.

ToddSchumacher

I like to draw!
I want to stat up the gods for my homebrew and I guess I'm a bit stumped as to how to start.

I own dieties and demigods but not the Epic Level book. I get that the gods are made up of 40+ character levels (and the rules for characters above 20 are slightly defined in DD) I get divine rank and how all those special divine abilities are added.

The part I get confused on is, and I quote:

from Dieties and Demigods
Most deities are creatures of the outsider type (usually with 20 outsider Hit Dice)

What, exactly, is the hit dice of an outsider? The BaB? Saves?

How do I start this? How do I make a 20th level outsider to add classes and abilities to make my gods?

Okay, the 20 HD of Outsider is in the MM. In the front it shows what one gets with outesider HD.

The starting stats were posted and I'm sure someone recalls them.

"If it can have stats, it can be killed."

My two bits is adopt the "Gods as chessplayers" philosophy. That is Gods don't fight directly -- or even touch their opponent's pawns -- for the same reason two chess players don't decide to put their pieces away and smack each other in the alley. It's the chess pieces who have rules of movement and capturing (ie. stats), not the players.

Gods should be mysterious yet have a plan. I mean, when's the last time you told your Queen's Knight why you were moving him? (:

Oh I agree on that...its the main reason the main uber wizard of my world doesn't have stats, He is as powerful as I want him.

Its just an excersise, and a way to pass the time. The main reason I bought the book in the first place was on how rediculus they were. I looked at the entry for Thor and His hammer and laughed out loud! I had to have it.

Its all just a bit absurd.

And I thought I'd give it a go.

Plus doing these things help in understanding the mechanics a bit more. I know more about d20 than i did 24 hours ago, thats always a plus.

In the end I probably won't stat every god, I may not even finish one.
