I would Lose my Shirt if I got out of D&D!

I think you may have talked down the condition of the mags too much. Of course, with e-Bay sometimes you just don't attract any interest besides one bidder and they walk away with a bargain. :\

How many hours did you play D&D over ALL the years you played? Does your time have no value? Have you paid $7-8 to see a 90 minute movie? Were any of those movies terrible? Was your D&D time worth more than that $7-8/90 minute movie?

Your "collection" may not have the value of its original cover price, but I'd bet you already gotten your money's worth a thousand times over since then. Selling the collection is just additional value. Heck, you can sell the collection and keep on playing.

I'm slowly selling off my collection, namely everything I haven't read for over ten years. Sometimes I get pennies, sometimes I get pleasantly surprised and something goes for way over what I originally paid for it.

I'm not expecting to make a profit, just get a bit of pocket money to buy other stuff I like. You're not going to make money out of RPG collectibles unless you're lucky or an a***hole. Think of selling stuff off to make room or money as just extending your hobby and you'll feel a lot happier about it.

I'm the type of person who would never sell his D&D books, but back in 2004, I started selling all my D&D books. That's one reason my family knew there was something wrong with me.

Sure enough, I was diagnosed as with major depression and had to stay in the hospital for a while. After a long recovery, my desire to play D&D returned and I started replacing every book I sold.

If you count d20, I still haven't got but a fraction of it back, but I'm making good progress on my core D&D collection (just about a year behind now).

I still don't blame myself for selling books; I wasn't in the right state of mind. But I sure won't be selling off my books again.

No way would I sell my D&D books.

I still have my original red box set somewhere in storage... along with all my AD&D 2nd Ed books - the Magic Item Compendium, Players Options, Complete Book of X series, etc.

The hours upon hours of time I've played these games has more than made up for the money invested :)

I unloaded a ton of RPG material a year or two ago. I just boxed it up and took it to Half-Price Books, so I got even less than I would if I had ebay'd everything off, I'm sure.

I kept all my D&D stuff (from all editions), Mutants & Masterminds, True20, Lejendary Adventure, Rolemaster/MERP, Savage Worlds, and my Call of Cthulhu stuff.

I got rid of: Top Secret SI, Morrow Project, Chill (Fasa), Star Trek (Fasa), Chivalry & Sorcercy, Tunnels & Trolls, GURPS (except for a few sourcebooks), Space Opera, Villains & Vigilantes, Champions, Superworld, Stormbringer, Hawkmoon, Ringworld, Vampire, Mage, Werewolf, Traveller 2300, Twilight 2000, Star Fleet Battles (yeah, not an RPG), Battletech (yeah, not an RPG), Mechwarrior, Car Wars (yeah, yeah), James Bond 007, and probably a few more I don't remember off the top of my head.

No regrets, so far.

I have no interest in selling anything I have collected over the past 20 years of playing D&D. All of my Dragon and Dungeon mags are in binders seperated by year, and all of my books are in bins divided by edition. I wouldn't say I'm a collector but I am a pack rat. I think my wife would stroke however if I started getting rid of them considering the amount of funds I have sunk into my collection.

First, for me, money invested in RPGs is a hobby investment. The money is spent and in return I expect some enjoyment. I don't look at the books themselves as the investment. I will (and have) sell my old books for pennies on the dollar, or even give them away, if it means they will go somewhere where they might be used. Plus, it opens up more space on the bookshelf for me.

I've sold approximately 4k worth of gaming books at a 75% loss since 2003. I'm finally financially stable enough to start buying books again but, even at a loss, I was happy to sell the two collections that I did. Because eating is more important than roleplaying.
