IA: A Teacher for Laynie

"Ah, well you can't join a guild if you don't live here, silly," the woman shakes her head slightly and gives a little quizzical smile with a raised eyebrow.

"Trina. And, the short answer is, they aren't. That's kind of the idea of the guild system. It is still okay to perform for room and board at a venue that has room for that kind of act, but not for profit or solicitations. Keeps bread in the mouths of the good people of Medibaria and their families, don't you agree Mister...?"

"Vanitri, tis a pleasure to meet you Trina, and no, at the moment I don't, as I'm trying to keep bread in my own mouth as well as those of my friends. I've been a wanderer all my life, never been told I couldn't try to make an honest livin' before though."

"Well, no offense Vanitri, but unless you are something special, you aren't going to make enough for food and lodging for a group of people on street corner acrobatics donations. Folks who want to make a living in a profession should stay put and establish a reputation with their guild and the populace...I mean, there's a reason why most people tend to think of wanderers as tending to be thieves and..." she gives a slight smile, "Troublemakers. Of course, some of those troublemakers call themselves 'adventurers'...Not that it's always true, of course, but it seems that way sometimes..."

"Just a simple Freefolk ma'am, no trouble here," Vanitri says. "And it's not me I'm worried about, it's the kid."

"Well, if you're settling down here with your child, then you should look into citisenship and then guild membership. If you're planning on forcing your kid to live as a wanderer too, then the cycle will likely continue to the next generation. At he very least, you can probably find work as a labourer. They don't have a guild for unskilled labour, and even foreigners are typically welcome."

Vanitiri chuckles, "Trina, you have me all wrong. I'm the child's uncle, of sorts, but she's here to see the Order. Far from my usual wanderings, but her case pulled on a heart string."

Trina laughs when Vanitri mentions the Order, "Oh, my poor Vanitri. You want your niece to train at the Academy, and you are strapped enough for coin that you felt the need to beg on the street? I am afraid you have traveled far for naught, then. The Academy of the Chromatic Order is the most elite magical academy in the entire world. Do you have any idea how expensive it is for outlanders, even those who have enough talent to merit a scholarship? Let's just say if I could have afforded to be a Wizard instead of an acrobat, I'd have chosen to be a Wizard...I bet most people would."

"Tis why I recomended the 'folk, but the child is headstrong, and does indeed have a tallent. I intend to at least be heard. But I'm not one of the wizarding ways, and most people from Orussus know little of the Academy."

Vanitri pauses for a moment, "So, what do you have against 'outlanders'? I done something to you I'm not aware of?"
