IA: A Teacher for Laynie

"It probably wasn't Laynie, that's what many kids call their parents."

"Sir, did by any chance those two students end up marrying and moving off (Insert direction)?"

OOC: Not sure what direction she came from, but I think Vanitri knows. If not, he'll say somewhere.

"No, not at all. When they were still young, Jaedyn challenged Elayna to an illegal Mageduel after hours, and she killed him with a spell that was cast a bit too harshly. That's what happens when geniuses start training in magic before they are emotionally mature. Now, once she was older, Elayna grew up to be a powerful Wizard, but that was to be expected. But your random stalling question aside, are we done here?"

(OOC: He doesn't know)

"Well, you say she knows the old ways, I think that perhaps she may be the daughter of Elayna, perhaps even her namesake."

"Laynie, did your parents ever call you something else?"

"Well, Laynie is typically short for Elayna, but the coincidence is not very surprising. The name Elayna is common among the Highborne, as it was the name of the only Mage Queen of Medibaria, back a long time ago when the Empire was at its strongest. A powerful wizard, she briefly interrupted the ruling dynasty of her late husband's family and led Medibaria to great victories and expansion until her mysterious death--many say she was poisoned by foreigners who were frightened of her power and tactical genius and jealous of her beauty and arcane power. After she died, her nephew..."

"Garrick, you are going on again...We all know you did well in History, and they aren't here to listen to a lecture summary," the woman in green points out to the man in red.

*He shakes his head and finishes.*

"So, in conclusion, it is a common name."

"Uhh...okay. They just called me Laynie."

"No, not at all. If Elayna were here, we could ask her, but she left the Academy years ago, after donating a large grant. Besides, that seems rather unlikely--just because I mention a single name doesn't mean that suddenly that has to be the girl's mother--this Laynie may not even be Highborne, for all we know. For all you knew, I could have been naming a recent graduate too young to have a daughter this old, one of this year's graduates, perhaps, like, I don't know, Elise Ellom..."

"Oh of course that's who you'd pick. I knew you had a crush on Ellom."

"Hush Layna, I'm talking to the people."

"Anyway, Elayna Valsice was really a bit old to have such a young daughter anyway."

"Old? Mommy wasn't old--she was young and pretty!"

"Elise, nice girl to talk to, though a bit of a temper. Haven't seen her since my trip to Earling."

"Well, I tink it'd do the girl a lot of good if you could at least get some information on her parents. I'm quite sure she's been trained in your ways now, and since they've passed on, I think it might be nice to know a little more about them."

"That really isn't possible without knowing who she is, I'm afraid. The best I can say is that the Academy may be a good place for her to learn when she gets a bit older, at least if she is really as good as you say."

"You mean to tell me, with all this magical divining you have at your disposal, you can't find out who her parents are? Perhaps peer into her past when they were alive?"

"Well, we've traveled a long way here. Do you think that at least we might have a look around and you can get to know her a little bit? Perhaps she'll change your mind, and if not, we'll be on our way."
