[IC] For the Children, Chapter 1

jolting back into reality, in a cold sweat, he hears a murmur, and makes out that someone wants him to sit. He gets up, dusts himself off and sits quietly- without looking at anyone, or speaking to anyone.

Once seated, he looks at his hands and again enters a deep trance.....

Shade looked up in surprise, but had considered this a possability. With one smooth motion, he drew both blades and put them to the man's neck. A quick scissor like motion might have took off his head.

"Shhh..." he whispered quietly. "Make no sound other than what I say. Tell him you will pay. Tell him that you are not properly dressed and that you will be down in a few minutes to pay your debt."

"Do these things, and you will live to see another day."

[OOC: Intimidate?]

Killian wrestles the bread, fruit, and cheeses into his mouth with some gusto, before washing it down with the milk.

He greets each adventurer as they join the table, responding with introductions and pleasant banter.

"Greetin's yerself, Dash!

I be Killian Maxwell, originally from back East in The Vast, now a travellar of many lands, currently protectin' these fine priests while they got these troubles going down with these 'Child'-folk."

After seeing the zoned-out Sodarin at the table, Killian is puzzled by his haggard appearance and lack of responsiveness.
He does what a member of a large family would do, and throws a small piece of cheese at the monk, trying to get his attention -
"Eh!
You look like you need some food - eat up!
Did you get roughed up by someone?
I wonder if it's the same guy that stole me coin-purse last night?"

With his eyes still closed, and with quick refelxes, Sodarin snatches the cheese out of the air. Not wanting to offend his comrade, he places the large hunk of cheese in his mouth and begins to chew. After a couple of minutes, he forces it down his throat and chugs a glass of water to wash it down.

He looks up and sees the table overrun with people and food:

"Name's thorn. Been wanderin for years. Priest brought me here to help escort the children in n out of town this year. you?"

Looking around, I see a group of fine men- something big is gonna happen. Protecting a caravan froma group of farm workers- no need for this much force... Something is goin down....

"Nice ta meet ye, Thorne.

That's a mighty nice trick you got there, bein able ta see with yer eyes closed....

You try that trick in battle?

Anyone guess why thare's so many of us be needed to protect against or for the Children?

These priests must be mighty worried-like."

Dash Eventide

"Killian, Thorne, i am most honored to meet you. The blessings of Corellon to all of you fine people and honored priests of the morning lord."

After that Dash sits down and helps himself to the food on the table.

Marina quietly takes a piece of bread and eats it without looking up or saying anything. She looks like something very big is on her mind. Marina thinks to herself "So many people are gathered. Something big is going to happen. Nothing can be worse then what I've been through." Marina takes a drink and goes back to thinking.

addressing entire group:

"Priest told me to help escort the children in and out of the city and help guard them in their stay. I expect you guys are here for the same?"

Pauses for a reply

"Considering i had nothing better to do, I expect this babysitting job will do well for meeting people and getting some exercise in...what are you in for? (addresing no one in particular)"

Killian grumbles, "Yea, I be here for tha same thing.
And exercisin' be good and all, but I be in this particular' gig for tha money-
travelin' the lands can sometimes be expensive! :(

Any a yuu doing this job fer some other reason?"

OK - now that the boards are letting me post...

The room is filled with the dull roar of conversation. Topics range from the morning's services to the work being done around the temple to the impending caravan visit. The Priests are very friendly, and seek to draw their visitors into conversation. A few of the other non-priests are engaged in conversation with the servants of Lathander, while one pair keeps to themselves, eating in silence.

At your table, the priests chatter excitedly about "So many people have come to help us to keep the peace" and "It's a blessing that the travelers are willing to help us. Praise Lathander for his generosity!"

One, a young man, comments "We're sure to discover what's been happening to the children." and the table falls silent. The priests look at one another, and then to the four of you. A stern woman eyes you each in turn, as if to get an estimation of your natures.

"I am Syan, a sergeant for the city watch. I imagine you've all heard by now about the disappearances?" She tells you what she knows (the info in the prologue).

"We maintain the peace in this city, and tend to the administration of Beregost. Unfortunately, we can't be everywhere at once, and when the caravan comes to town, it draws folks from the outlying regions. The city's population swells, and we're short-handed as a result. The priests, even with long working shifts, can only do so much, and most of our efforts seem to be in apprehending petty thugs and pickpockets who want to take advantage of the crowds and their full purses. We need help - specifically, we need people who can 'blend in' with the visitors and keep an eye out for anything suspicious."

"If you are willing to help us, Lathander would surely bless you for your assistance, and we would compensate you accordingly. Should you discover and prevent further disappearances, you'd be heroes to the people of this town."

Marina

Turning to Marina, she smiles "Sister, I have not seen your face before. Have you been sent here by your Prelate, or are you an itinerant priestess? In either case, welcome to Beregost, and if there is anything I can do to help you during your time here, please don't hesitate to ask."

Savris "Shade" Ko’thari

The next few seconds stretch on as a single bead of sweat rolls down the man's forehead and down his cheek. He nods slowly and carefully, wary of the blades at his neck. In a hoarse voice, he calls out to the door.

"Just... just a minute... I'm getting dressed. Please give me a moment!"

He looks back at you with terror-filled eyes, then glances downward at his pack. In a whisper, he addresses you.

"I have little of value, sir. If you've been sent by Vaclav to collect on my debt, I assure you that I will have the money within a tenday. In my bag - the ledgers - I have it all written down, and I've been keeping up on logging the penalties. It's all there. I just need a few days. Tymora's not been smiling on me lately, and I've had a rough streak at the tables, y'know? The town'll be filled with all manner of marks tomorrow. As few days with the cards, and I'll have all the money I owe your master. I swear!"
