(IC) Quickleaf's Rime of the Frostmaiden

GM: @happylace Alma, from her conversations with Nigel, might recall that the north and east sides of Kelvin's Cairn can get hammered by winter winds. And generally the small mountain is prone to rockslides and avalanches.

Alma's directness makes Keegan's hand shake worse as he pours cider into earthen cups for you. "Garret may h- have grown up in the city, but he's survived many nights on the tundra. Not in Auril's cold, but he's an instinct for survival. Boy would never abandon him unless something terrible happened, but if Boy made it out alive, I have to believe Garret is alive too."

Russet Ghostfur

Russet awoke with bags under his eyes. He makes a mental note to avoid bunking with Zeth and Lumrolur again.
He decided to ride with Aric, and kept bugging him with "what are they saying now?" and "That one looked at me, what did it say?" as they rode.

Hearing the story of Garret, he knows they must act soon. He knows what can happen at night in the mountains, but doesn't talk of it - Keegan looks worried enough. If Garret was a good guide he would have bought himself some time.

We need to act quick. I'll run and get some firebrandy from the market, you sort out the sleds. We have rope, pitons and icepicks enough?

He runs off to find a store that will sell him what we need. The firebrandy will stave off the cold if they find Garret alive.

OOC: anyone can come along too!

Logrim returned to his room above his uncles shop. He slept fitfully excited about everything that has happened over the last day. He awakens early and runs downstairs. He grabs a small bite to eat says goodbye to his uncle and heads to the kennels to meet the others. Logrim rides one of the sleds and Ludo runs beside him.

Logrim had made similar trips many times with his uncle. Usually it was to gather materials or deliver goods. This was his first trip without his uncle. He watched the landscape pass by and dozed for a time as they traveled. He awoke as the sleds pulled into Tragos. He wipes sleep from his eyes and notices the dog. As the dog approaches and begins to lick his face the gnome smiles and scratches its chin. He listens and follows the others.

Logrim follows everyone to the Targos kennels. He listens to Keegan's concerns over his husband. He is about to speak up and say that we should help when Russet speaks up. He nods in agreement.

"I'll help Mister Russet get the supplies. Aric do you think you can ask Boy to take us to where he last saw Garret?"

Aric Looks at Keegan with Empathy "Boy already offered to lead us to Garret. He needs to rest, but he's brave. He needs a bit to eat before leaving. Know that we'll be dealing with Yetis, from his description, I am sure of it. We should bring provisions to barter with. I am sure they are viewing the dogs and Garret as food, so we should be ready to fight or trade. I can't speak Yeti though"

OOC: Survival roll for additional knowledge on the area they are planning to head to: 1d20+4=22

GM: Aric, Survival 22: Goblins avoid Kelvin's Cairn for good reason. Unsteady rocks, harsh winds from the northeast, and caves suitable for monster habitation are some of the dangers. Only natural game animals are mountain goats, and everyone knows how ornery they can be. Two passes provide access to the Cairn – Bremen's Run from the west side & Icewind Pass from the southeast side.

Russet thinks about yetis.
nature about yetis: 1D20-1 = [17]-1 = 16

I'll go and get some firebrandy. Logrim, you get some climbing supplies and anything else you think we'll need- and don't spend too long bartering! We harengon have a saying - "Shopkeepers are the slowest customers, apprentice nephews of shopkeepers even slower" I'll help you carry it.

OOC: I buy a bottle(?) for 5gp from a market. No time for bartering, too out of breath for that! just slap down the asking price and run to help Logrim bring back whatever stuff he bought

Knowing that preparation is necessary, Lumrolur helps prepare sleds and dogs for continued trek. He doesn't like the delay, but there is no sense in getting lost themselves.

"Remember that dogs don't reason well, it can be a person or hag simply wearing white with horned helm."

Logrim nods to Russet. "Yes Mister Russet, I won't haggle. I'll be back quick."

Logrim heads out to Triglio's general store.

OOC: I'll pick up 100 ft of hemp ropes and 20 more pitons that will be 3 gold. Is there anything else we might need?

GM: @domminniti While Russet's fears of sled dogs eating him might be exaggerated, fears about yetis are not. Nine-foot tall horned hunters of the mountains, yeti prefer to stalk furred prey in conditions where their white fur blends in with the environment, and are clever enough to keep their distance from armed travelers until conditions turn in the yeti's favor. While traveling over mountain passes, you've come across elk carcasses torn in half as if by two claws, with the upper half left frozen in the snow - the work of a yeti. One of the slighter members of your party, like Jack or Alma, might be similarly torn apart.
