(IC) The Chaos principle

"Well, I don't care to sit about and wait. If you want to summon a slaadi and try to get it to talk, then by all means do. I will not wait while chaos tears the lands apart! If we had the time for deep consideration, then I would certainly wait and see what develops, but as it is I think we have to take a few risks to determine the source of this disturbance and stop it!

"Dalaa, you would be invaluable in helping us determine whether or not there is a disturbance in your home plane, though I am no stranger to the various planes of existance," Quillia says, turning to Susanna.

"I have done extensive plane-travel, m'lady. I am no babe in the woods when it comes to these matters. I am well aware of the infinite nature of the planes. However, if there is some wide-spread disturbance on one or more of the planes then a simple shift might be enough to at least see if something is going on! It would at least eliminate one or more possibilities if nothing else!"

*Quillia is obviously impatient to be doing something other than sit around and wait.*

Takarna fondles his scroll organizer, "I have a fair few such scrolls prepared and then the one," he taps his head, in here, "I have the potential to prepare more spells given a little time. Though that is of little use until we have a better
idea where we are supposed to be going."
"The pressure to act is understandable, but as doing the wrong thing may be worse than waiting, if it, eh, tips our hand, I would propose seeing what mundane intelligence we can gain first - before resorting to magic."
"Plane hopping is not something I want to undertake lightly."

"So we shift, to Pandemonium or Limbo or wherever. And suppose we find something is going on. Well, that we know. If the gates are hidden on this side, it's safe to assume that they are hidden on the other as well. I can't see that would get us very far."
"I'd propose, if you want to do something immediatly, that we check out some of the incursions on this side as they are likely to be clustered around a gate," he looks for one of the servents or attendants, if one is not present he will ring, "Could we have a map please? As large and as large scale as possible, thank you."

"Plane shifting. Isn't it a bit early to talk about that. You want to explore aimlessly to find something we don't even know about. It is just asking me to find a treasure from a death person and I would start to wander from graveyard to graveyard in hope to fall on it. They could have gather there army anywhere than launch it from there. We need to find the srouce by a more efficient way."

"Fine. You want a better solution. Well, suggest one! Aside from dragging unknown prophets from their homes to ask if they may have had some kind of divine inkling that this was going to happen, I haven't heard a single other constructive idea other than sitting around and waiting to see what happens! If you have better resources than me, use them! I always focused more on battle magic and motion magic, so divination is not my forte.

"You've heard my suggestions. Scry or travel. You don't like either of them. What should we do then? Wander around, carefully collecting information about where and when these incidents are happening while Toril crumbles around our ears? If you want information, well let us gather it swiftly! Surely with all our power a bit of trifling information shouldn't be too hard to find. The Archmage would hardly call some of the most skilled and knowledgeable people in the land just to sit about and ponder when demons and slaadi swarm the city gates!" Quillia is now on her feet and bangs her staff for emphasis, her eyes glowing more intensely.

The bear stamps his foot and shouts, deafening all nearby. "THERE IS NO NEED FOR SUCH STRIFE! The solution is simple. Cast your divinations; I will lead the warriors here to take a captive or two. If we cannot learn what we need here, we will travel to Pandemonium, and see what we can learn there. You are all agreed, I hope? Good. Who will come with me?" With that pronouncement, he begins to leave.

"Calm down lad! I said I was against travelling to another plane, not against scrying. I think it is the best idea up to now. Interrogation of a prisonner, it take time, lot of time, not talking the time we will take to capture it. But scrying, my brother use it to place observation points into a castle, I suppose you can do better than that, divination is not really the speciality of my brother."

"Spirit!" Susanna calls out after the mighty foot of the bear stamps upon the room's floor. "I apologize doubly my good people," Susanna dips in a curtsey. "Many times have I been disappointed by companions interested in nothing but glory and treasures, and I can see that you people are true."

"Quillia, my services are at your disposal. Though I have some knowledge of the planes, it has been gained through musty tomes and conversation with travellers and sages, yours is the superior."

"I anger like you all at the happenings around, and the power that my god grants me flows through me more powerful than my lifeblood, I cannot stand idlely by. With those that are here can I make a suggestion?"

"Quilla, I offer my first service to you. You may come with up to 20 questions to ask about what is happening, then I shall send them to the realms of the dead for answers, hopefully we shall find many."

"Kharas, we need a masterpiece. A trap that will catch us the most intelligent target you can imagine, and one that it cannot escape. Magic, mechanics, anything you require, I'm sure somebody here can provide."

"Dalla, you are a native of the Chaos planes, though you confess to being opposed to many of the principles there. I shall require you to converse with a little friend that I shall call up all too soon, will you please assist me good sir?"

"And the mighty 'Panzerbjorn' and Takarna, my new stout companions. I intend to bring us all a present, but you two may be required to subdue the creature should my magic not be strong enough to contain it. Without your strong arms our efforts will be foiled, I will beg for your assitance if need be."

"I need not call any of us heroes, or legends, or anything. We may have done valorous things in the past, but it is the present that judges us all, should our company breakdown into bickering then I can blame nobody but myself. It is for this reason that I offer my services unconditionally to one and all, and I hope that you all see this as a gesture of good faith."

OOC: Though it means very little to PCs, my +31 in Diplomacy attempts to show my good faith towards all in the party. Also at the beginning of the game it was mentioned that we had 4000xp for magic items/spells, I may need that in a second for a few tricks, can I still use it?

"I'm sure I could make my swords availible should all else fail, I would prefer to rely on my magic as a first resort though and as a second summon some allies. However if between the three of us we can't deal with a single Slaad through magic alone, we are probably not the right people to undertake this task."

"I can give you a inwardly focused containment circle, tell me where you want it put. I can also send it back should that prove necessary. When you've finished with the slaad, I intend to go across to the map I have requested and see if there is any pattern to the incidents. That should hopefully enable us to narrow the search."

Dalaa's sharp eyes notice the doubtful looks the priestess is casting at his direction. "Let there be no doubt, that I wouldn't help in any way I can if needed. Although I see, I didn't quite make it clear where I stand. As I told, the Githzerai are not one with the chaos even if we live in the most chaotic place imaginable. We are not natives to that plane like slaadi, who have inhabited Limbo from the very beginning. No, a long time ago my people were slaves of the Illithids," disgust can be seen on Dalaa's usually stoic face as he mentions the hated enemy of the Gith, "sometimes referred also as mind flayers. But the minds of our people are strong and we broke free from the oppressors. My kind is usually well-organized and seeking solitude, but many of us also like challenges. What would be a greater challenge to someone with lawful nature, than a place of utter chaos, where nothing is like it seems and everything is subjected to constant change? So we chose to stay and live in the Limbo, not because we embrace the chaos, but because we welcome the challenge of surviving there."

The githzerai pauses turning to Quillia, "But enough of the history of my people. Lecturing about it won't help us with our task here. You, my gnomish friend, seem to know your way through the planes. That is good and will aid us greatly, I'm sure. You asked about the ability to travel between the planes so I make it known, that I can cross the planar borders once every day. It is an ability all the most potent minds of my people possess naturally."

"As to how we should proceed in this matter I like many things, that have been mentioned. Magic can be a powerful tool, we should try to gain knowledge by using it. At least explore, what can be known by magical means. The enemy has surely protection from such spells in the most important locations, but we have only begun, we only need something to get us moving in the right direction. I'm sure with all the powerful beings present here, we can accomplish that. Only when we know more, should we consider planar traveling. I do understand the urgency to act by some of you, but I advice not to rush making important decisions. Poorly planned operations might do more harm than good." That said the monk sits down again.
