D&D 5E [IC] Uller's Out of the Abyss

OOC: Was I able to channel divinity before combat started? If not, then I will use it first so that my weapons do not get eaten!

OOC: If Channel Divinity was able to be done pre-combat.

Ezraen runs up and does a leaping stab into the creature, his rapier glowing with the light of the sun!

That's a hit. Yes, you could have done a buff before the fight.

But it readied an attack for anyone that comes in range so before your attack lands, it lashes out at you:

OOC:
Attack [roll0]
dmg [roll1] bludgeoning plus [roll2] acid

miss.

Then it thrashes about and dies.

Once you are in the room and get a better look at the room you can see that (like much of this place), the ceiling is made up of cracked stones. Orsik takes a look at it...

Stonecunning [roll0]
Eldeth gives adv [roll1]

Orsik has Derendil hold him up and he taps on the ceiling with his warhammer and listens. He looks at it a bit, he and Eldeth talk about the type of stone, the configuration of the cracks, the wear patterns and so forth. They agree that it is _possible_ to open up a hole from inside to dig out without causing a cave in but a mistake might cause a collapse. It would be faster and safer from above. They can't be sure how far they'd have to dig but they think it could be as much as 10 feet.

OOC:
"Assuming that all the stones will be small enough to be moved, that you won't need to break through any with pickaxes, and that you'll be able to do this in time seems far more dangerous to me. As you just said, it could be a long way up. We have no idea how much fell."

Surana thinks "send people with no mining tools to break through a story's worth of stone" makes no sense at all. Just assume she's hanging quietly with the NPCs & do whatever you guys think is best.

Nothing needs broken. The cracked area is already shattered stone. It's just a matter of moving the rock between you and freedom. The stone is soft (like sand stone) so if any needs broken, a warhammer will do the trick. So you have several imperfect choices. Send people above to dig quicker and safer (and risk them coming out of gaseous form too soon). Dig from below, more slowly and dangerously. Cause a purposeful collapse but risk catastrophy...or there is always use the potion for very few of you and leave the rest behind.

OOC: F' that, Ez will not leave any behind. He would like to go for the safest route, but understands that time is of the essence. He is making a leap of faith, and hopes that he can at least keep the spirits up of those that get left behind... As for the potion, less than 2 minutes should still be plenty of time.
