Icewind Dale 2 Problem, Techies Help!

I just bought Icewind Dale 2, and it starts up fine. After making a party i click the "done" button and it procedds to load the actual game, but as soon as the loading bar hits the end, the program freezes. I'm able to go back to WIndows and close the prgram from there, but I'm not able to play my game!

What are your computer specs? Sounds like it might be a video card issue.

A lot of video game issues are driver related (provided your PC meets min requirements). Make sure you have the latest greatest driver for your video card. If that doesn't help, try upgrading your sound card drivers too - just in case.

ah i really appreciate the timely resposnes, thats rare on most message boards.

However, i dont think its a video/sound driver issue. I might be getting the terminalogy(and spelling ) wrong but i have NVIDIA card thats around a year or so newer than the game, and its pretty high end, ( sry its the only expsensive item i own, i feel i can brag about it) Additionaly, much newer, more graphics' intensive games run fine, UT 04, CS:S, Doom 3, etc

I am wondering perhaps, if i have Direct X 9, and the game was made on and came with Direct X 8, would me having DX9 be the problem?

It may seem trivial but these responses give me a warm and fuzzy feeling gracias

I wish I could say for certain, but I am just not sure. I would think it is a valid possibility for what it is worth....

gracias am about to try th elink. yes i do love these boards, i used to haunt here but went on a year or so foray into the total lack of gaming world, and then found out my freind is interested, so im back in full swing. gracias. i think i might try the DX8 if the patch wont work

ok, well nothing seems to be working. i'll go back and return it for another one, it was only $10 they should be cpool with that. Thnks for the help, I look forward to further discussions here in the future .

If you have a Half-Price Books near you, you might want to check there. They sometimes have PC games for a decent price. Friends have picked up NeverWinter Nights for $10 I believe, not sure about Icewind Dale 2 though...
