Iconic Dragon Minis - For Use In Game Or Just A Display Piece?

The colossal red moves over 6 FEET PER ROUND in 1 inch squares. Maps just dont work for those battles in that scale unless its stupidly styanding in one place trading full attacks. In which case you dont need minis. A better option is to use a tactical scale, as hills and houses are your terrain in such a battle.

That's true if it's flying and taking a double move (it flies at 40 squares for a move action and 80 for a double move). It's walking speed is only 40 (8 squares) or 80 (16) on a double move.

I would put it in a cavernous setting to eliminate the flying concerns, but if it was flying in open wilderness then you might not need the mini.

I have used the Black in a one-shot game before; it worked well. I plan on using it and the others multiple times in similar situations. One word of warning: the Black's stat card had a misprint on its spell resistance, leading to a frustrated wizard. Double check the stat cards versus the MM before use.

I'm aware of its flying vs. land speed. I prefer my dragon battles dynamic rather than slug fests that take place in the same 40x40 room. Even in a cavern the figure is largely useless just because of how much space it takes up on your standard map.

That Colossal dragon pretty much IS a 40 x 40 room, all by himself. :)

If I owned one, I'd probably use it for one or two one-shot battles, but I really have never had a situation where I've used it. The closest was an Epic game we were running a while back, when I had the shapechange spell and could transform into several colossal critters. I just can't see regular use for something that massive, but then, I doubt it's the target market.

In the last campaign I was a player in, we fought one. Unfortunately, that was before the mini came out. We used a 6" x 6" piece of paper to represent the dragon - not quite the same effect. :)

So how did you get it then? Are you Monte Cook posting under an alias? Is the Monte at Home name not good enough for you anymore?

Don't worry. Your secret is safe with me...errrr...and everyone else looking at this thread. ;)

The cardstock terrain is from WorldWorks Games. A lot of what you see in the pictures, however, was kitbashed by me (i.e., they're not available for purchase, as I created them from scratch using WorldWorks Games' products as templats).

The trees were purchased from a local hobby shop. I used clay to create a base around each tree, and flocked the bases with different types of grass.

Thanks for the reply. Too bad the custom card stock terrain isn't available. Maybe you could send your work to World Works and they'll give you a cut of sales for those sets. Just a thought.

Heh, I'm originally from Seattle and want to come back to either Seattle or Portland after we've had our fun globe trotting (probably in the next 1 to 4 years as my Civil Service job only lets me stay overseas for 5 years total). I'll definitely look you guys up then (or maybe if I get a chance to come back for a visit).
