I'd just like to put it out there...

I have, in my new campaign, a character named Madias the Master Thief. He's 6'7", with green hair, red eyes, a bright red tunic, and a blue cape with a big yellow "T" on it. HE also goes around telling people(including the elf who's a guardian of the city and forest) that he's a Master Thief.

Anybody else EVER have a character anywhere close to this one?

I think most newer players with a thief have their character tell everyone that they are a Master Thief (and tell them to keep it a secret...) The big "T" shirt is a new twist, though. Maybe the back of the shirt can be outfitted with a big "Target"...? :D

Have him challanged. :) A higher level thief challange him to a Thief-Off. Thugs who want to prove they're a Master Thief-kicker.

I'd have someone point out that he's not very stealthy. Seeing a Master Thief coming a mile away is generally going to cause them to up their defenses. Or just laugh their ass off.

:)

No, he really is stealthy. It's just the fact that he's SO tall and he dresses so gaudily. It's similar to JArlaxle Baenre. He doens't have to dress in drab clothing. Or be modest. And he's got a dwarven friend to protect him from Master Thief kickers.

Hell, he has Artemis Entreri to protect him from Master Thief-kickers, if they're of the sort he can't handle himself.

That's one over-protected little Drow.

Reminds me of what was described as "Justinian-Stealth" in our last campaign.

We were travelling with the true crown prince of the empire during a time when his cousin had seized the throne, and he was forced to seek outside help. We'd all given him lectures on keeping a low profile, so as not to draw attention...

...so he made sure to ask every bartender and innkeep on the way what he thought of the current crisis, hint that help was on the way, and not only pay, but _tip_ in platinum.

Kill him and take his stuff.

I early 2e I had a 6'7" thief who wore chain mail and used a 2-H sword boy did he suck with that. He believed he was the reincarnation of the god of luck. Even broke a Giantslaying 2-H sword one time cause he missed 3 backstabs in a row. He said it was cursed. He had an 18 charisma and man did I put it too good use.

Yes, but if you see Master T coming into your establishment, you're going to batten down the hatches. :)

And, hey, Jarlaxle kicks butt! He's not so much a thief as well... Jarlaxle.
