D&D 5E Idas for a New ENworld Class?

One problem I have thought about with new classes is a lot of them are pointless due to overlap with existing classes. I have messed around with a Warlord thread I posted here a week or two ago but are wondering about niches missed from the PHB or classes from other genres/games. Thoughts so far,

1. A proper arcane gish as the PHB ones are a bit underwhelming.
2. A AoE class built around bombing everything (alchemist perhaps)
3. A decent pet class/summoner.
4. A Jedi (Star Wars Saga conversion, toned down a bit in regards to lightsabres).
5. A Kai Lord (From Magnamund/Lone wolf). Basically a psychic ranger (no spells)
6. A class from Mass Effect (Adept, Vanguard, infiltrator, Engineer etc).

Any other ideas?

I'd argue that we already have most of what's listed there, or will probably get it by year's end. We have EK and swordmage for gishy characters, and I'd be interested to hear how you feel those don't meet your expectations. We already have an alchemist, and "AoE class" is pretty much filled by just being a caster and loading up on AoE Spells. 4-6 are all in the pipeline essentially with the mystic; jedi is just soul knife with the right discipline choice, there's a bow-themed discipline for the kai-lord, and mystic is pretty much exactly the right chassis for any biotic class from ME (although it beggars the question of why futuristic sci-fi classes should be ported to D&D anyhow).

Summoner would be a welcome addition, though, and that's one we definitely don't have at present. I'd think it would have to be focused around a single powerful summon, since necromancer already has the horde bit covered.

I'd like to see the 4e shaman return in some capacity, and that too could be another pet class.

strangely enough we don't have a ninja subclass yet, and while it's very easy to simply refluff a rogue as one, you'd think the popularity of it would have included an example in the UA articles, doubly so since the samurai was included. Maybe they figure it'll be so popular they don't need extra feedback on it.

A polymorph/transformation themed class. I would personally rather see this as a warlock pact option but there's certainly other ways to do it.

Aside from the warlord, most of my wants are either niche classes that are unlikely to come about, or are easily done as subclasses to existing options, or the distant third option of being a prestige class. The number of ideas I can think up off hand for a full 20 level class with multiple subclasses is fairly slim.

This seems to contradict itself. First you assert that classes that overlap with existing ones are pointless, and then you propose a bunch of classes that overlap with existing classes.

Oh, and check out my "Way of the Force" Monk sub-class for Jedi. It wasn't intended to be entirely serious, but maybe sort of like what you're looking for.

Or maybe that's one of the ones that's pointless because it overlaps with existing classes...

Based on the thread title, "Idas for a New ENworld Class?" -- I was expecting a proposal for a class to emulate the various denizens of ENworld: posters, boosters, snipers, scoopers, reminiscers, debaters, jokers, philosophers, etc.

I keep waiting for a proper witch that does healing, divination, and spirit control/banishment. Needs to have a familiar.

Might need its own class, or it might be best done up as a warlock patron with a couple new eldritch invocations.

I've been wanting a witchier witch class, too. Every time the discussion comes up it ends up that it can either be done with existing sub-classes, or maybe through making a new sub-class (Warlock, Wizard, and Druid all get mentioned.) But I keep coming back to each of them not being quite right.

I started this thread which produced some interesting ideas.

In general I'm a proponent of fewer classes, not more, but this is one I could possibly get behind.

Would love a half-caster arcane gish (#1). I think the paladin offers a starting point. Heck, the oath of vegeance paladin is 85% of the way there.

Maybe geomancer whose spells/abilities change depending on the current terrain?
