Idea: D&D TV Show

Family

First Post
Have the production quality above that of Mutant X, have the feel of the narrative about that of Stargate SG-1.

There isn't a medieval & magic show on but there is an acceptance of of the genre now.

Oh, and don't call it Dungeons & Dragons.

Well there have been a number of fantasy shows over the past decade:

Hercules
Xena
Roar
Beastmaster
Tarzan
Conan
Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog

Unless its based on some other setting (Dragonlance, Forgotten Realms) I'd say you have to call it Dungeons & Dragons.

And it shall not feature a band of children with poor acting (voice-over? Meh) skills, no villain shall wear The Silliest Hat Ever, and under no circumstances shall there be a thinly disguised Yoda clone. :D

Given Hasbro's connections, you never know.

I'm dimly holding out hope that someone at Hasbro puts 1+1 together and comes out with 2, ie. EA + WotC = decent D&D CRPG.

Having said that, I'm looking forward to the HBO version of a Game of Thrones.

I remember back in the early days of 3e there was a Forgotten Realms show planned to be put into production. I think they'd even gotten so far as to get a cast together and a basic idea of what it would be about... And then it was canned.

I think there's a refference to it in some dragon or other... though for the life of me, I couldn't tell you which one, or what part of teh mag it was mentioned.

Yeah, I kind of remember this too... I also remember going to some website where they were taking a poll to see if people would be more interested in something anthology style or regular cast, etc.

But, yeah, last I heard (or at least, last I remember hearing), it never got past the 'pitch' stage.

From George RR Martin's blog - http://grrm.livejournal.com/46002.html on June 13, 2008, he mentions that the series is still in a script development phase and that it has yet to be green lighted. If your holding out hope for a DnD or Fantasy TV series, you can't hope for too much more then this.

In other news...
Variety reports that Jordan's Wheel of Time film rights have been snagged by Universal.

But the movie "Neverending Story" has all ready been made.

The first 4 books of Jordan are really good

Speaking of Dragonlance, you might have missed the animated version that came out on DVD last year. If you did see it, you are probably longing for a way to get back those two hours of your life.

My friend and I watched that awful Dragonlance movie, and we now have an inside joke that everyone who falls down for no apparent reason must be a dwarf.
