Idea for an action-adventure/RPG hybrid series

The games would have gameplay similar to Zelda, but would be more RPG heavy. The protagonist would not only be a homage to fantasy heroines like Red Sonja and Xena, but would also be inspired by the works of Luis Royo. In each game you would use tons of weapons, items, outfits, magical abilities, and more. You would be able to level up to improve all of your skills. Each game would also have a wide variety of monsters as well as dozens of bosses. There would be tons of characters and non-human races in the games too.

Each game would have its own fantastical setting, kinda like the D&D campaign settings. The first game would have the usual pseudo-medieval Western Europe setting, another game would have a gothic horror setting, another game would have a Barsoom-like setting, and another game would have an oriental setting, just name a few.

In the first game, the weapons you'd use would include swords, daggers, axes, maces, flails, hammers, clubs, polearms, spears, quarterstaffs, bows, and crossbows.

It's easy to have an idea for a cool game, but it's hard to make it. A brilliant idea with shoddy execution would not interest me.

I think we're sorely missing a fantasy action-rpg game engine that works the way I want. Oblivion's nifty and all, but I want more types of attacks -- give a few different swings, and let people combo it so you get a more duel-style combat.

Actually, the one thing that's lacking, which I think would require a great feat of programming but which would be awesome if they could manage it, is a system where you attack, and the computer calculates how many HP you deal, and then it animates a second or two of sword-fighting to have a realistic exchange of attacks.

If the person still has tons of HP, your attack forces them to dodge, and your sword doesn't connect. If they're around half, maybe they try to dodge and parry, but you graze them. And only when you finally are about to kill them would your weapon ever actually connect solidly with their character model.

This is much more complicated if you're fighting a horde of bad guys -- the computer would have to figure out some combination of their attack animation and your dodge animation that lets you avoid getting hit while still looking dramatic. But that's what I want.

Maybe so, but there are some developers who put as much effort as they can in anything. It would be kinda like the game Revenant but in a third-person perspective. Many of the monsters in the first game would include gremlins, goblins, hobgoblins, orcs, trolls, ogres, dark elves, lizardmen, giant spiders/scorpions/etc, undead, dragons, other draconic creatures, and much, much more.

Sounds like Diablo (1,2,3) but limited to a single act and character class.

Maybe I don't get it, but what's supposed to be the distinctive feature of your idea? It sounds pretty much like 99% of the fantasy games already out there.

Well like I said, each game would have its own distinct setting, unlike Diablo which is purely gothic horror. It would also be like Tomb Raider with swords.
