Okay, coatls.

Underused celestials that I'd love to use more in a world like this. Also other weird celestials.

Any ideas?
Snakes are already excellent swimmers. Remove or reduce the wings and give them a swim speed and they make good oceanic celestials.

Guardians and caretakers of Lost Islands?

Coatls ave a fairly nurturing skillset. Maybe when some gods need something done, they do not send a host of angels. Rather they send a couatl tasked with gathering a group of mortals and guiding them to achieve it. Some of the legendary tales and heroes of many cultures arise from those chosen by a couatl, and the challenges and rewards of their quest.

Yuan-ti purebloods reflavored as coatl blessed humanoids?
Like Eberron's Shulassakar?

Exactly!

And I love the idea of Coatls as the historic Gandalf/Nick Fury figures who “put together a team” to take care of soemthing.
