If 4th Edition didn't use the "D&D" moniker...

Would you buy 4e, at WotC costs, if the system didn't bear the brand name of "D&D"?

I don´t think so.

I would play it if someone would ask me to (The system usually doesn´t matter much, although i favour fast and unrealistic combats (no wound penalties etc...)).

Then if i really liked it, i would buy it... but then wouldn´t toss my DnD 3rd edition out of the window and I would certainly look forwrd to te next edition of ADnD, becuse of inherent problems of 3rd edition.

I dunno...

One of the reasons I am excited about 4E is that it is bringing D&D towards my-style of PnP for fantasy. This is exciting because a fair number of my gaming friends, only play D&D. So this version means I can actually enjoy it more with them.

If it wasn't D&D, probably wouldn't buy it, since it be to them another fantasy-PnP that isn't D&D. So I would stick to my WoD

Luckily it isn't :)

Assuming there was a buzz about it enough for me to take notice, yeah, I'd buy it. Would I play it is a totally different question, though. I've bought many RPGs that I've never actually gotten to play or have only played a few gaming sessions of. I guess I like to buy them in the vain hope that someday someone will play them with me. Like Dread. Man, I want to play Dread, but nobody wants to play. :( :(

So, I'd probably buy it, beg others to play it, then put it on my shelf never to be touched again. :(

Probably, as I've bought lots of non-D&D RPGs. If I somehow knew that it would be supported in the same way that an RPG with the brand ID of D&D would be? That would take it from probability to certainty.

No I wouldn't. I already have a large number of books for games that I don't play, or have stopped playing, and adding another non-dnd game would not be in my budget.

I probably wouldn't.

While I really do love the new rules, more or less, the sheer community of D&D is a big selling point. I have picked up other RPGs before, but mostly for research purposes. But D&D for me has a lot to do with the community, which is simply unmatched.

D&D (whatever edition) is my choice for FRPGs for two main reasons:

1. It's what I've always played since 1982 and I value those memories; they are attached to the "D&D brand" in my own brain

2. It's the game with the largest player base so I've always been able to find players to come sit at my table and be social together. :)

Without the D&D branding, it's unlikely that either of my lifelong brand associations with the game would be triggered, so NO - I probably wouldn't buy it without the D&D label.

The only reason I am buying 4E is to remain active in the RPGA as a DM and take advantage of that large, pre-existing social network for conventions and public/organized play. I'm delighted with 3.5E (warts and all) but I see the benefits of staying current, too.
