If I were a grognard....

It isn't like moving to California and leaving all your friends behind, or anything.
I did exactly that....and then formed a 3.0 D&D group after being in CA for 2 years. :p

Maybe I should move to Canada next and start a 4.0 group.

The edition change was a good time to question my relationship with D&D and I think it's time to move on. I gave her the old "it's not you, it me" talk. So far it's been pretty liberating. Now if I can just convince my group when my 3.5 game ends next month.

I did that twice. Despite growing up with AD&D, I could never make the switch to 2nd edition. Just didn't like it. Eventually we stopped playing AD&D and played a variety of other games. We did that for years, experimenting with this and that. Every now and then we'd run AD&D again for fun.

Then after a gaming hiatus of half a dozen years (maybe more), I got a new group together when 3.0 came out and we played that for a few years ... but due to the 3.5 money grab and increasing complexity in the game, we shifted over to Savage Worlds, and kissed 3x goodbye. Despite the fact that I still love my old AD&D books, the Scarred Lands and the Paizo Pathfinder products, we play Savage Worlds now, and I just convert my old stuff over.

Indeed, its liberating. :)
