If someone published their campaign setting...

Would it be alright with you if they directed you to other books that would be of use with the setting, or would that not be cool with you? For example, if a world had Green Ronin's Book of the Righteous as it's cosmology, should the setting book point you in that direction, or should it include the information itself? What about cities? Should a world that includes GR's Freeport direct you towards that book, or should it include a bit about the city in itself?

Also, is it alright to point towards your own monster manuals in a setting book, or is that just tacky?

Well TH:ROE uses a lot of ogc sources and they always point you to the book, but they include enough to play it - except with the nightmare monsters.

I would say you should include enough that the person will have a better time if the purchase the other books, but that they are not a necessity

Alright, but I've got a question: What is TH:ROE?

My reading of the OGL (Section 7) prohibits refering to Product Identity, Trademarks or Registered Trademarks without a separate agreement. So you couldn't just point to The Book of the Righteous by title (being at least Product Identity, and possibly a Trademark) without Green Ronin's permission.

From a users point of view, I agree with Drawmack. I would like enough information on the cosmology that I don't require an additional book. But if another book elaborates or details the basics, then yeah, point me to it.

Cheers

Oh nevermind, just got it. It's "The Hunt: Rise of Evil".

But no offense, could we keep it on topic? This is kind of important to me, I'd like to get feedback on it.

TH:ROE
is The Hunt: Rise of Evil setting that Mystic Eye Games is best known for. Click on the links below and enjoy. Is has been hailed as "Ravenloft done right" and Ryan Dancey called it a "fan favorite", so check it out if you would like, we have a long list of books for the setting (but that can be used in other medium fantasy settings) and have a whole website dedicated to it.

* I actually came to browse this topic, BFG must have sent me mental signals to come in here---a psionic goblinoid---(shiver). :p

I've been quoted by myself, since people missed it the first time.

Also, do you prefer monster tomes written a la the WotC "Monster Manual", written from an OOC persepctive, or like Monsternomicon, written from an "in-character" perspective?

I agree with Drawmack 100%--see above quote from him
