If you don't want to alienate some customers...

Well, To be honest, the one and only problem in two years of using paypal was that a guy from another country purchased without noting our shipping policy. After finding out how much it was he was going to try and find it locally but I could not refund his money due to him not being in the US.

As luck would have it one of my regular artists and good friends lived in the same country so I had him send the customer one of his copies and he paid very reasonable shipping.
That is the one and ONLY problem I have ever had using paypal at all. I do watch it closely though.
Hundreds of direct sales orders have passed through paypal without incident at our site.

100,000 complaints outstanding??!!! Whoa. Glad I had such trouble registering there and never used their services - looks like I was saved the real possiblity of some serious problems.

One thing to bear in mind about this figure. Compared to the number of transactions done through Paypal on a daily basis (which most likely numbers in the millions considering how much Paypal is used for Ebay transactions alone), 100,000 is a very small percentage. I've used Paypal for nearly three years and have never had a single issue. Just my experience and viewpoint.... :)

No problems in 2 years. Is sort of annoying that it takes me 3 days to deposit money from my bank account though...

A couple friends make a living off of ebay (on selling art, one selling anything not nailed down). All they use is paypal and they have had no problems.

Never had a problem with PayPal. I personally won't buy from any ebay auction that doesn't accept PayPal, and I strongly encourage buyers to use that method when buying from me.
As for game publishers not accepting any other for of payment, I doubt that. A money order is perfectly good money, and I'm sure and publisher would not mind receiving a money order to send out the product. Takes longer for you to receive it (and it'll cost you for the MO itself), but then that's your call. Just drop them an email to get a mailing address to send that Money Order. :) Side Note: Most will probably not accept Personal Checks since there is too much risk for them. You don't even have to be trying to scam them, you could just make a miscalculation and...WHAM! You both get stuck with a huge fee for a returned check.

Never had any problem with PayPal, either as a user or (recently) a business owner.

That said, I'm willing to work with customers' needs. All it takes is an email.

PayPal

As a pretty busy eBay buyer/seller, I've had pretty good dealings with PayPal.
I even had a pretty ugly situation where someone managed to hack my PayPal account and take money from me, resolved in my favor (funds returned to me without a problem). I didn't expect it to be resolved as quickly, or in my favor.
As a previous poster mentioned, 100,000 complaints is a small amount compared to the number of outstanding claims against any other large credit card company.
PayPal is convienent, but not totally safe. The safest way to pay for an online transaction in the US is through the US mail with an insured Postal Money Order, with delivery confirmation on the letter.

I also run a business using paypal. I've been using it for 1 year now, and have had no problems. My only complaint is that they keep changing the way you create buy buttons.
