D&D 4E If you had to choose; end of 4e OR 4.5e?

4E is dead; what should happen next?

I don't want an edition war here; I am NOT anti 4E!

I want to know what ENWorlders feel in the FOLLOWING scenario (note I am NOT suggesting this will happen, I am just curious). This is MAKE-BELIEVE people. Hopefully we all are good at this (what do you mean you are gamist and don't like all this RP nonsense)?

Jan 2010; WoTC announce that D&D 4E is to be discontinued and wound down. They present EN Worlders with the task of deciding what to do next. The Lord High Morrus puts it to the vote.

So if this happened how would YOU vote?

I know; I have gone POLL mad!!

I voted for sell it to another company. It would interesting to see what they would do with the property. Would we get 5th edition that would be a 1st or 2nd ed retro-clone? Would we get that 3.x-4e hybrid or just 4.5?

If it happened today, I think I would like to see 5th ed to see if the game can evolve even further or if there would be retro-cloning.

And I believe someone from wotc said there wouldn’t be a 4.5. (then again, they said they weren’t working on 4e two years ago. And maybe that person will have been let go by then).
I think the actual quote was something along the lines of "We are not working on a 4E that will require the use of miniatures."

Whether that statement was also misleading is debatable :p, but it's a bit less of an outright lie. Unless you have a quote from a WotC staff that I'm not aware of?

Sell it to another company, which would then develop 5E, which would bear a lot of similarities to Pathfinder.

Too bad the poll is not multiple choice. :P

Oh, and I'd want the following core team to work on it: Erik Mona, SKR, Eric Boyd, Robin Laws, Chris Pramas, and Steve Kenson, with a few others as special consultants.

Yeah, that would be interesting to see, so I considered that option. But what I really want for my game is a mix of the good things from 4e (whatever that is) and the good things of 3.5 (whatever that is). :D

5e. Keep the basic class/role structure, most of the math, and the overall simplicity (especially with monsters). Replace the power structure with internally consistent subsystems for each power source so that the martial and arcane classes had very distinct feels.

But leave the legacy "Vancian" magic in the grave.

I would vote for "Not Care" if it was an option. Ask some people around here if they still play no-longer-supported editions...

I voted 5e, in the hopes that it keeps the path they have started and focuses it even more, it is already excellent but things can be always made more awesome.
