D&D 4E If you had to choose; end of 4e OR 4.5e?

4E is dead; what should happen next?

I asked it because I am curious as to how WoTC could best extricate themselves from the current situation. I made the point on another thread that WoTC DO listen to EN World opinion and Darrin Drider asked me what can they do about things as they stand. He was asking; they are listening, but what can they actually do.

That got me thinking, and I decided I wanted a 4.5E to distil the best of 3.5 and 4 and put it together. I then wondered how many other people now felt the same.

Why is there no option for continuing 4E (just releasing supplements)?
I thought that was covered by the option of selling to another company, which is what I voted for.

EDIT: I didn't vote for a 4.5E or a 5E because I don't think we would have had enough time to discover enough of the problems with 4E, or experiment with system and rule improvements that could be folded into a new edition.

I know this is a Humor thread, but my answer is dead serious! My first instinct is to sell D&D to another company to make the next edition.

I am really interested in this question "Does people's dislike of 4E actually mean that they would now accept a 4.5E in the next year?"

I know WotC said this won't happen, but by the time PHB 5 and DMG 5 have rolled around, i think we'll have already seen the equivalent of 4.5, it just won't be labeled as such.

I'm wondering why continue playing 4E isn't on the options, just because it isn't being supported why return to 3.5 after all it isn't like they are supporting that any more is it?

I'd continue playing 4e, and while I might introduce new rules or change rules, they absolutely would not have a "simulationist" flavour.

So I guess I can't vote on your poll.

I voted to sell. The new owners then can make a choice on continueing 4E, Make 4.5E or Make 5E. Right now I would love to see D&D move out of the large corporate fold where quarterly profits rule and to a smaller private company where maximized profit doesn't have to be the 1st priority.

But yes it must happen soon before 2012 and the end of the world as we know it, even if I do feel fine.
