I voted weapon damage difference, because I'm a big fan of class-based damage.

In truth, though, my answer is "all". e.g. I like both the idea of a game that is more "everything is a skill" or one that is more "everything is a feat".

Although, I think some of the basic concepts underlying AoOs are important to keep, whether expressed through that specific mechanic or by other means.

Other: Vancian magic. I like the prelisted, standardized spells. I like the resource management. I don't like slots. Spell points are better, but they're just quantum slots. I don't know what the right fix would be, but an improved spell system would get me to change to 4E in a heartbeat. Of course, any change would probably alienate as many people as would cheer (I'd take a pass on any per-encounter system), so it's unlikely that Vancian magic is going away.

Next choice: Bizarre little customizations that push the game closer to a point system. What I mean here are things like alternate levels, skill tricks, etc. I don't mind alternate levels as a campaign alternate, but not for individual characters to decide for themselves. And skill tricks are just bad in terms of a class/level system. Let's face it, one of the things that makes D&D D&D is a class/level system. It's part of the "ease of entry" factor. If I wanted character point system, I'd play Hero, which will always trump D&D's ability to customize. Play to the strengths, not the weaknesses of the system.

I voted other. I love what skills, feats, and attacks of opportunity have added to the game, and would hate to see them go.

If anything, I'd like to see the current spell system go away in favor of a point-based system. I love the way psionics work in 3.5, and would like to see spellcasting go that route.

I'd also like to see removed:

  • Multiclass XP penalties
  • Half-elves as a race
  • Half-orcs as a race
  • Material components except for special spells

I want to keep classes.

I would like to see it harder to multiclass. I could do without prestige class as well.

Aside from that, I really like the idea of sphere (school, domain) for everyone. With wizard having access to x and x domain, while cleric could have access to y and z domain, and maybe each class could have access to more domains via feats?

I'd also cut the assumption that PC's are people that train to be professional adventurers that go into dungeons- that should be a consideration for individual games.

Alignment. Fine for outsiders and magics, not needed for mortals.

Favored Class/Multiclassing penalties

Class skill/Cross-class skills.
